Drum and Drummer
Double Bubble (Jay Sikora - Paolo Nutini / Birdy)
Ep. 68
•
This week we welcome onto the show one of George’s drumming idols Jay Sikora! Jay has had an extensive drumming career playing for the likes of Stephen Fretwell, Paolo Nutini, Lianne La Havas and Birdy but it wasn’t until his 30s that a lot of this happened as he was enjoying another successful career at Apple. We chat about all of the above plus his Canopus kit, when Jools Holland’s Hootenanny really takes place and heading back out on tour after 6 years, a wedding and two kids. Enjoy!

233. I Get It
31:57||Ep. 233This week it’s Ben’s turn to head up to Newcastle for a friend’s wedding. From busy KFCs, getting locked out of his room, big grassy breasts, a few Guinni and trying not to be in ‘function band mode’ there’s plenty of good stuff for your ears. Congrats to Jamie and Paula! 33:39||Ep. 232George has been up north for some more Lainey shows in Newcastle and Edinburgh where they stayed at a Go Ape, walked up a big hill and he had a slightly clumsy walk onto the stage. Ben’s found a drum he’s been looking for for 12 years and has finally ditched the jeans for gigs. 231. The Day The Music Died
32:42||Ep. 231Is this the day the music died? Ben is questioning his gigging career after playing a surprise wedding which didn’t exactly go to plan and George gigged in central London battling parking and meeting ladies with disco balls for heads. 229. I Can't Keep Playing This Drum Beat
35:25||Ep. 229We start this week's episode with some listener drummer pet peeves before talking about Ben’s first Wonder Year gig of 2026. George has started his “tour” with the Lainey Wilson Experience but if one show isn’t enough he’s also in the backing band for the headliner; it’s all going well but he did have to go to Swansea. We also chat about paying for parking while drumming and has Ben found the bargain of the year at Graham Russell Drums? 39:19||Ep. 228Ben’s been to Barcelona on a stag do and put his new spine through its paces, sightseeing, playing escape rooms and maybe consuming the odd pina colada. We also have a good chat about going up and down the drumming ‘ladder’, looking back and forward at your career and appreciating your achievements. 227. Ride Cymbals Are Too Thick
29:29||Ep. 227George took it easy this weekend with just two gigs and a 50 mile bike ride. Ben had his first gig back after spinal surgery playing in front of UK metalcore legends Bury Tomorrow and despite a sound limiter, a crashing iPad and some discomfort it went well. Inspired by a Reddit post we also talk about drumming pet peeves. 226. Bell Bottom Georgie
44:55||Ep. 226George had a busy weekend gigging in the Midlands with two different tribute acts and eating too many burgers. We also chat about custom kick skins and whilst they’re great, they can make life hard when playing for multiple acts. Ben introduces his new kitten, Pearl, how to add some spice to watching University Challenge and a mystery accident in his pants. 225. I Was At My Breaking Point (Alex Ballew - ERRA)
55:24||Ep. 225This week we are joined by the awesome Alex Ballew from the band ERRA. Formed in Birmingham, Alabama, ERRA are mainstays in the metalcore scene and have just released their seventh album ‘Silence Outlives The Earth’ on 6th March 2026. With a 32 date US tour starting the same day Alex was kind enough to take a break from pre-tour rehearsals to chat to us about prepping for tour, recording the new album, double kick technique, why he doesn’t use triggers live and much more.
