Episode 177 right here, hot and fresh out the kitchen and ready for your immediate devouring… Truly this episode is a long awaited one, hinted at for a good while… Well, paths have aligned, the gawds have shaken hands and good fortune has stood in the DPP path as we welcome Jeannie Grigio aka Jean Greasy aka JEAN GRAE!
Pip warns at the start that this may be something of a ‘love-in’ and two people sitting there agreeing with each other, which - sure - may be somewhat true… But what could be better than that? In a time where articles and blogs scramble for your attention with negative and shock headlines, let’s take some time to indulge in a straight up lovely, fully varied and positive chat with two very like minded people, who drop gems and jewels like their moth-eaten swagbags got caught on a nail along the way. As a fan, Pip exercises terrific restraint and does not fan-out at all - it’s perfect, as Jean delivers all manner of nuggets pertaining to her illustrious career as rapper, beatmaker/DJ, singer, writer, composer, actor… Too many jumping off points to start from, but somehow the whirlwind of awesomeness is contained in this humble podcast, and you’ll hear about all of it including internet nut-jobs, theoretical fans, how to manipulate a crowd and leave “blood on the stage”, her early days (you may remember her as ‘What What’, or her old crew Natural Resource), her attitude to today’s hip hop scene and how her limits outside of it are endless, the New York state of mind and the diversity within, super powers, dark sides, and TONS more… Prepare to offer this chat a standing ovation at the end, it’s golden!

It's a rare occasion for this formation to come together too, as Musa is an incredibly busy writer/performer/podcaster, and Polar is perpetually busy with the words and the page. What happens though is a beautifully cordial, jovial, inspiring and really warm catchup between folks who have a lot of love for each other but a love which radiates outwards to us too. You'll notice it and feel it. And while tough topics come up - not least involving where Musa lives and the environment cooking there - it is all met with that said outward gaze and a communal outlook. A perfect listen not only for this time of year, but for this time in the world. A lush mix of local and global happening throughout - the small acts of kindness which spread out, that kind of vibe.
