Dissecting Medicine
Dr. Keit Loi - Immunology Research & Academia
Dr. Keit Loi completed a Bachelor of Biomedicine in Infection and Immunity at the University of Melbourne in 2014, an additional Honours degree in Immunology in 2015, where he researched neural regulation of T lymphocytes and then achieved his PhD from the University of Melbourne in Immunology in 2020 looking into the role of the sympathetic nervous system in T cell responses. He has more recently worked as a post-doc researcher at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity and is now enlightening the next generation of immunology students and future researchers and clinicians as a Senior Tutor and a lecturer at the University of Melbourne. Keit has also been heavily involved in outreach programs including mentoring and hosting new students to campus life. Keit and I actually met in 2013 when volunteering with a Summer School program helping new Year 12 students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for their final year of school.
The Dissecting Medicine Podcast sees conversations with medical professionals at all points in their careers to provide insights into the realities of practice in Australia as I myself learn about where I'd like to take my own career in the field. I'll also be interviewing allied health professionals, researchers, public health experts and policymakers to give a broader and more informed perspective to prospective and current medical students in planning their own careers (myself included) and ultimately deliver the greatest level of care to patients.

Podcast Trailer
01:18||Season 2022Welcome to the Dissecting Medicine Podcast. My name is Jesse and I am a medical school applicant in Australia hopeful to be studying medicine next year and planning a career in the health field. Making the switch to medicine later in life at 30, I'm fascinated by career paths and career changes but I'd also like to be more informed about the many aspects of health, healthcare delivery, and its contributories. On this podcast, I interview practising physicians, specialists, nurses, allied health professionals, medical researchers, educators and academics, as well as public health & policy experts. You might be undecided on which path you'd like to pursue in this field and these insights will hopefully guide that, or if you are clear on your own path, I think that these conversations will reveal insights that will give us all a more global understanding of the broader direction of healthcare in Australia, making us better decision makers and carers for others. If you'd like to watch the conversations, you can catch them on my YouTube channel.
