  • 11. Trailer Talk & Go To Editors

    49:41
Episode 11 finds Ricky, Piotr and Erwann start off talking about the trailer Ricky’s cutting for a feature film with no dialogue. To title card or not to title card? Erwann, who’s cut many trailers for French TV and action-films, gives advice and insight on cutting a compelling and honest trailer. The dudes go down a rabbit hole of dishonest trailers, trailers that are better than the films and then, surprisingly, YouTube watch-time. There’s talk of maybe changing the podcast to “Trailer Talk.” Then Erwann leads a conversation about The Go-To-Editor (not a sponsor) and how professional development programs like it and others positively impacted their lives and careers.  It’s more than just improving your skills, there’s a community ripe with new friendships and professional connections, People! And surprise! We talk about imposter syndrome! Ricky and Erwann mention how it’s anxiety inducing breaking the ice at meet-ups and talking to editors/ directors you admire. Per-usual, they wrap the episode with watch lists; Ricky - Mad God and Mississippi Burning; Erwann - Rapid Fire, Ghost Busters: Frozen Empire and Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Piotr reads a book: Humiliated and Insulted by Fyodor Dostoevsky.Links to most of what we mentioned in the episode:The Go-To Editor - https://thegotoeditor.thinkific.com/The Editing Chef - https://cuttothepoint.thinkific.com/Every Frame a Painting - https://www.youtube.com/user/everyframeapaintingThe Dunning-Kruger Effect - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effectPassengers - https://boxd.it/8lFuWhere The Wild Things Are - https://boxd.it/1K0CMad God - https://boxd.it/vVPmMississippi Burning - https://boxd.it/28r8Rapid Fire - https://boxd.it/1QI6Ghost Busters: Frozen Empire - https://boxd.it/AxYuBad Boys: Ride or Die - https://boxd.it/l3KiHumiliated and Insulted by Fyodor Dostoevsky - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humiliated_and_Insulted--We'd love to hear from you!Questions? • 10. Edit Feedback (can editors/directors get by without it?) and Cate Blanchett (says she's middle class. no, seriously)

    54:36
Episode 10 - we’re into double digits folks!Erwann and Ricky fill in Piotr on meeting up in Paris. They go deep on discussing their thoughts about Piotr’s latest Cut to the Point video: “Why Editing Feedback is Key for your Film (Especially if You’re the Director).” The guys go back and forth on whether directors should even edit their own films and how they’ve convinced directors to work with them in the past. Piotr edited the short film he wrote/directed and Erwann asks if, in hindsight, Piotr should’ve had someone else edit it. The guys then touch on their process before diving into the edit. Then they comment how Cate Blanchett was named jury president of the main competition at Camerimage 2024, the film fest that celebrates cinematographers. Did you know she considers herself “middle class?” The dudes riff on that, too. Then they get into movie watch lists - Piotr watches Punch Drunk Love and the Polish film, Sonata (spoiler alert), Ricky is still watching Fallout and Erwann saw The Old Oak and cried. To conclude, Piotr and Erwann talk about American Fiction which Ricky still hasn’t seen. • 9. Ricky & Erwann's Big Adventure (or career advice while Piotr's on vacation)

    27:23
In episode 9, Piotr is on vacation leaving Ricky and Erwann to fend for themselves. Ricky talks about currently working on his first narrative feature and Erwann shares his experience cutting promo trailers for a French TV station. They both concur on how by starting to work on their own projects and low/ no budget projects it helped them become better problem solvers. Plus, Erwann and Ricky get into how their career paths haven't followed a straight line and that project constraints are a good thing. Then they wrap it with their watch list from the week: Ricky - Furiosa & Late Night with the Devil; Erwann - Concrete Utopia. Here are links to things we mentioned in the episode:Late Night with the Devil (trailer) - https://youtu.be/cvt-mauboTc?si=qG86HUOAhJ5aVYNfFuriosa (trailer) - https://youtu.be/FVswuip0-co?si=AlPjd-XbA5VDk7B6Concrete Utopia (trailer) - https://youtu.be/LB7Dtqm4zo8?si=ucbr6hIyVnCnQex7Tim Biedron (tattoo artist) - https://timbiedron.com/--We'd love to hear from you!Questions? 39:41
In this episode of CTR Erwann Kerroc’h joins Piotr and Ricky on the podcast! He is welcomed with open arms and they discuss a few projects Erwann is working on and the CNC. Piotr wants to know what the Cannes film festival means to someone from France…and from America and how every movie played gets a minutes long standing ovation. Ricky brings up the crazy drama behind the scenes of the move Chinatown, wading the episode out into the dark deep end discussing actors and directors behaving (very) badly.  The conversation then wanders into thoughts on reality TV and how Ricky surrounded the Real-World house in Chicago along with a 100 other punk kids. Piotr and Ricky recount last weekends 10K and disc golf tournament and they all discuss their watch lists from the week: Ricky - Fallout (tv), Erwann - Punch Drunk Love & Boy Kills World, Piotr - Molly’s Game.  There’s probably more things mentioned in the episode but you’ll have to listen to find out! Here are links to most of the things we talked about in the episode (in no particular order):Centre National Du Cinéma et de L’image Animée (CNC) - https://youtu.be/0cumzf_Q4u8?si=w7sbmUIVCMChBMNzCannes Film Fest - https://www.festival-cannes.com/en/EO (trailer) - https://youtu.be/ii0gjj963ZY?si=qojqt7xduND96heGFuriosa (trailer) - https://youtu.be/XJMuhwVlca4?si=zuYACx7fhqdy9qWTAnya Taylor Joy - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5896355/What Went Wrong podcast (Chinatown Ep) - https://open.spotify.com/episode/10cQHxTNM5lrSjVUBbq3m5?si=76c66a2f4ee34f87UnREAL - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3314218/Real World Chicago - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_World:_ChicagoJerry Springer Show - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jerry_Springer_ShowRoman Polanski - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_PolanskiGérard Depardieu - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9rard_DepardieuAnora - https://letterboxd.com/film/anora/Megalopolis (trailer) - https://youtu.be/x5ouDGB6xyU?si=N0ES_3jkCxp0ktViThe Room (trailer) - https://youtu.be/cG_e8k9PILM?si=CPIizhbh1p9A3c_0Hydro-Riddle or Hydro-Puzzle - https://letterboxd.com/film/hydro-puzzle/Klaus Kinski - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaus_KinskiWerner Herzog - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werner_HerzogMy Best Fiend (trailer) - https://youtu.be/Lae8FewbnuU?si=HcvQ7J-HCnnf1uEvMolly’s Game (trailer) - https://youtu.be/Vu4UPet8Nyc?si=ginI_h9kFDXH4U5NPunch Drunk Love (trailer) - https://youtu.be/KGqn5k227HY?si=jZ9esTcWQ9QfWy4tBoy Kills World (trailer) - https://youtu.be/z6NibtjmjOk?si=BXaGdhVVsWObYImbFallout (trailer) - https://youtu.be/V-mugKDQDlg?si=GisD5g_shiCveOiU--We'd love to hear from you!Questions?
