ABOUT THE HOST
Award winning TEDx Speaker and Winner of Environmental Consultant of the year 2023, Paula Carnell speaks globally on bees and the connection between bee health and human health. She has her own podcast “Creating a buzz about health” and a workshop in Galhampton Somerset. Paula first started her own business in 1990 as an artist, greeting card publisher and eventually her own gallery in Castle Cary. Exhibiting globally her paintings sold for 5 figures. Then after 20 years she fell ill and became bed and wheelchair bound with Ehlers Danlos syndrome. During her ‘cocoon’ phase, her husband built her a bee hive and bees moved in. Following her remarkable full recovery using herbal medicine and plant based minerals, Paula then re-emerged ‘creating a buzz about health’, sharing the wisdom gained from bees and understanding the connection between our own health and theirs. Trained in Bologna as a Honey Sommelier, Paula works with organisations worldwide who want to work with bees and honey in a sustainable, naturopathic way, often thinking ‘outside the box’.

121. Why Cocos Bee research is so important
20:41||Ep. 121Why on earth would researching bees on this tiny coral atoll in the middle of the Indian Ocean have any relevance to the rest of the world? The longer Paula spends with the bees and the Cocos Malay community, the more important she understands researching this isolated population, of bees, and people, is to all of us, wherever we are.Learn about;Inbreeding with bees, is it a problem?Importing Queens to sustain bees, is it sustainable?Honey analysis, does that make a difference?Pollen analysis, what does it mean?To support the bee research join Paula's community, or support the Golden Bee project, both available on https://paulacarnell.com120. What's so bad about plastic?
40:01||Ep. 120Paula is joined by Plastics expert Liza Dicks who was the founder of the Sea Shepherd Cocos Keeling Beach Clean up programme. Meeting for the first time on Cocos Keeling, Paula immediately was inspired by Liza's values and motivation to clean up plastic from our beaches, and more importantly, our oceans. Running clean up projects across Australia and with a Global impact with her work advising corporations and councils on how to combat the vast plastic problem, Liza really is an expert on something that so many of us take for granted, or feel overwhelmed by.This chat was recorded at Liza's home on mainland Western Australia and really gets to the bottom of why we all need to be concerned about the plastic problem, and what we can all do to make a difference and save our oceans and beaches.Subscribe to Paula's newsletter: https://paulacarnell.comFollow Paula on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paula.carnell/Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paula-carnell-3016421/Sea Shepherd Australia: https://www.instagram.com/seashepherdaustralia/Liza on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lizadicks/Liza on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/liza.dicks119. 'How do you know you're on the right path?- it disappears...'
14:37||Ep. 119Sometimes we follow a calling, it may be strong, or a feint intuition... everything can point to it being the right decision, until suddenly, it doesn't! Challenges and obstacles appear, what can we learn from that? Give up? Turn back? Or, do we carry on forging a new path previously untrodden? Sharing anything makes it better!
18:31||Ep. 118A few days back into our return to Cocos Keeling island and a new energy after our break on the Australian mainland. Having friends visit us here and sharing our favourite places helps us focus on the good here. How does only sharing the good things impact our businesses, particularly when looking for support? This episode Paula discusses the pros and cons of sharing the good and the bad. Is true authenticity sharing all the gory details, or do we need to have the perspective of hindsight before we share some details and situations? How does it make you feel when a friend or family member doesn't share when they\'re going through difficult times?
