20. Criminal Justice Studies
26:12||Season 1, Ep. 20The BA in Criminal Justice Studies is degree course designed to equip the student with general knowledge and transferable skills while focusing on the broad theme of criminal justice. It is a multidisciplinary course. In this episode of CourseCast, the guests were: Donal Keating, Programme Lead; graduate Andy Ryan (who is now working in probation services) and fourth year student Liam Flanagan, who is hoping to join An Garda Siochána. They gave an overview of the modules on the course, the placement opportunities, and the wide (and sometimes unexpected) careers in which graduates might find themselves. They also discussed how Criminal Justice Studies can be a foundation for many further studies.
19. General Nursing
32:30||Season 1, Ep. 19This episode focuses on the BSc (Hons) in General Nursing. The programme is delivered in a purpose-built, world-class learning environment and students undertake clinical practice in many hospitals throughout the south east region. Podcast guests on this episode were Dr Teresa Dowling, course lecturer; Keith Kelly, 3rd year student on the programme; and Nessa Doyle, current postgraduate student and General Nurse/Clinical Nurse Manager in Endoscopy. They outlined the course content, practical skills acquired in SETU's state-of-the-art laboratories, as well as looking at the wide- ranging placement opportunities available throughout the four years of the degree. The panel also highlights the vast career opportunities for nurses, not just in Ireland but all over the world.
18. Public Relations and Media
38:04||Season 1, Ep. 18Here, we hear about the BA Hons in Public Relations and Media, a course which provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to step into an exciting communications career. The panel - comprising Programme Director Gregg Murphy; Senior Lecturer Pauline Flanagan; Fourth Year student Louise Dunne, and graduate Orna Whyte - outline the course structure, the modules covered, the differences (and similarities) between PR and media, and how important it is to understand both to have a career in either. They also look at the varied job opportunities available to graduates, and how students can apply their own passions to hone a speciality for themselves.
17. Computing in Interactive Digital Art and Design
34:26||Season 1, Ep. 17The BSc (Hons) in Computing in Interactive Art and Design (referred to as IDAD) gives graduates the know-how for success in digital artistry and application development. They will learn concept design, digital artwork production and graphics coding. On this episode we hear from Philip Bourke, Programme Lead; Colm O'Neill, course lecturer and Julianna Rohan, a student who has just finished the course and is about to embark on a Masters. They give an overview of what the course is about, the modules covered, and the types of careers in which graduates might find themselves. The podcast guests also talk about the exciting opportunities for students to attend events outside of the University campus, including Games Fleadh, Dingle Animated and Kilkenny Animated.
16. Content Creation and Social Media
33:20||Season 1, Ep. 16This is all about the honours degree in Content Creation and Social Media - a new course at SETU. The podcast explores the 'content economy' and the crucial part it plays in all sectors of industry. The podcast hears how it prepares students for a career in content creation taking into account many disciplines, modules and placement opportunities over the duration of the programme. We hear from Dr Irene McCormick, Programme Director, and students of the course Harry Odife and Favour Ehuchie. They talk about course content, how they're enjoying the course, and what they'd like to do when they graduate.
15. TV and Media Production
33:22||Season 1, Ep. 15You can find out here all about the degree in TV and Media production - a practical, hands-on course at SETU that prepares students for the broad industry settings in which they might find themselves after they graduate. This episode hears from lecturer Jenny Russell, graduate Gemma Delaney and current students Keela Toner and Max Jones. Among the topics discussed are the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment available to students, the invaluable placement opportunities, along with the various modules and practical work available throughout the course.
14. Design / Product Design Innovation
36:37||Season 1, Ep. 14The episode is all about Design (Level 7) and Product Design Innovation (Level 8). The podcast hears how product designers work at the pre-engineering stage of new product development, identifying need and using their creativity, imagination and skills to design exciting solutions to meet that need. The panel features Hilary Dempsey, Programme Director; Alan Grincell Year 1 Course Coordinator; Graduate Colm Marum and current student Lisa Polytska. They discuss the course content, projects and placement opportunities, and the vast career opportunities (many unexpected) for graduates.
13. Psychiatric Nursing
32:42||Season 1, Ep. 13This episode focuses on Psychiatric (also known as Mental Health) Nursing, a specialist field within in the health care profession. We'll hear the many ways in which mental health nurses can utilise their skills and qualifications, as well as delving into the attributes that are important for the roles available.The panel on this podcast comprises Dr Colman Noctor, a lecturer on the course at SETU, fellow lecturer and graduate of Psychiatric Nursing at SETU Eleanor Kirwan, and current 2nd year student Eoin Dowling. All of the guests outline how rewarding both the course and profession is, with huge opportunities in terms of career progression and travel. There is also a strong focus on the placement available to students, from First Year onwards.
12. Social Care Practice / Applied Social Care
25:53||Season 1, Ep. 12In this episode you can learn all about both the Level 8 BA (Hons) in Social Care Practice and the Level 7 BA in Applied Social Care - both CORU approved courses. We hear from Dr Vicki Anderson, Programme Lead for Social Care Practice and lecturer on the Applied Social Care Course. She discusses the modules on both programmes, work placement for students, and the types of careers in which graduates can expect to find themselves. We also hear from 4th year students, all of whom are now in work place settings; Eddie McKenna, Naomi McCarthy and Donna Lacey. Each guests will outline their journey through SETU and the opportunities afforded to them by studying Social Care Practice.
