Conversations in the Barn
In The Frame
Sunday morning, Rachel was behind the camera in the tech booth when Pastor Isaac invited a young man named Cody up to share his testimony. She made a deliberate choice to keep the shot wide, to keep Isaac in the frame with him. In this episode, she talks about why that choice stuck with her all week: a college memory of a panic attack she was embarrassed to let anyone see, a temptation to measure her own quiet, unfinished growth against someone else's dramatic story, and what Isaac told Cody afterward that put both of them on equal ground. It's an episode about Colossians 3, putting off the old self and putting on the new, and learning to leave room for someone else in the shot.

45. Let the Peace of Christ Rule | Colossians 3:15
32:38||Season 3, Ep. 45What does it really mean to live at peace?Peace is often something we think of as a feeling, a quiet moment, or simply the absence of conflict. But in Colossians 3: 15, Paul invites us into something much deeper: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”That little word let opens up a bigger conversation about our relationship with God. God takes the initiative toward us, but he also gives us the freedom to respond. We aren't simply passive recipients of God's grace. We participate in what he is doing in our lives. And biblical peace begins with something even deeper than our circumstances. Through Christ, we have peace with God. We have been reconciled to the One who created us. That changes how we understand peace, and it changes how we move through everything else.So what is actually ruling your heart? Fear? Circumstances? Other people's opinions? Uncertainty? Or are you allowing the peace of Christ to have the final word?In this episode of Conversations in the Barn, we take a closer look at Colossians 3:15 and what it means to live from the peace we have already been given in Christ.Scripture: Colossians 3: 15
43. Live Like You Are Alive
32:50||Season 3, Ep. 43What does it actually look like to live as someone who has been made new?In Colossians 3, Paul gives us a picture of the transformed Christian life by telling us to “put on” a new way of living. Like adding layers as the seasons change, we are called to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, then hold it all together with love. But this isn't about simply trying harder to become a better person. These qualities flow from knowing who we already are in Christ. We are chosen. We are dearly loved. That identity becomes the foundation for genuine humility, and from that humility, the other layers of Christlike character begin to take shape.Paul also challenges the divisions we use to separate ourselves from others. Race, religion, culture, social status, and other differences lose their power when we recognize that our identity is ultimately found in Christ. The message is both simple and challenging: if we have been raised to new life in Christ, we ought to live like it.Join us as we explore what it means to put on the character of Christ and allow the reality of who we are in Him to shape the way we live, love, and treat the people around us.📖 Scripture: Colossians 3: 12- 17📍 Black Hills Cowboy Church#BlackHillsCowboyChurch #CowboyChurch #Colossians3 #NewLifeInChrist #ChristianLiving #PutOnChrist #FollowingJesus #FaithInAction #BiblicalTeaching #ChristianFaith
42. My Face Gets There First
10:45||Season 3, Ep. 42My face gets there before my mouth does. It gives away what I'm thinking before I've decided whether it's worth saying. In this episode, I sit with Colossians 3:8-10 and an ordinary morning with my daughter Lydia to ask a harder question than how do I stop making that face. The real question is what's happening in my heart when things don't go according to plan. This continues our walk through Pastor Isaac's series in Colossians 3, exploring the difference between managing a reaction and letting Christ actually transform it, and what the old Wesleyan idea of a temper has to do with either one.New episodes of Conversations in the Barn release weekly.
41. Leave and Arrive
29:20||Season 3, Ep. 41What does it really mean to live as someone who has been raised with Christ? In this episode, we continue through Colossians 3 and explore Paul's powerful picture of the Christian life as death and resurrection. Paul isn't simply telling us to try harder or become better people. He is reminding us that something has already changed. In Christ, our old life has died, and we have been raised to a new life.So what do we do with the things that still pull us back toward the old way of living? Paul challenges us to put away the attitudes and behaviors that belong to our former life, not because we are trying to earn God's love, but because they no longer fit who we are in Christ.Using the picture of a horse moving out of balance, this conversation explores what it means to recognize when our lives are getting out of step with God and allow Him to bring us back into alignment. This isn't a message about guilt or perfection. It's an invitation to live from our new identity in Christ. If we have been raised with Him, then we don't have to keep living like we're still dead.Scripture: Colossians 3: 5- 11
40. Set
07:36||Season 3, Ep. 40Some things stay fixed even when everything else moves. In this episode of Conversations in the Barn, Rachel talks about a friendship that's lasted decades and 1,400 miles, a friend walking through something that will change the shape of her life, and what Pastor Isaac's sermon on Colossians 3 taught her about setting her heart like a cornerstone, established on purpose, not dependent on how she feels or how close she can physically be. Along the way: an honest look at what actually collects in her mind during prayer, and why her hope for someone she loves was never supposed to rest on her own presence.Scripture: Colossians 3: 1- 4 Blog Post: https://blackhillscowboychurch.snappages.site/blog/2026/08/25/set
39. Rise and Shine
27:56||Season 3, Ep. 39What does it actually mean to be raised with Christ?Colossians 3 calls us to set our hearts and minds on things above, but what does that look like when real life keeps demanding our attention? Business frustrations, broken things around the house, political turmoil, difficult relationships, and the ordinary noise of life can easily pull our hearts in a hundred different directions. This message takes an honest look at what it means to intentionally orient our hearts toward Christ. Setting our minds on things above isn't about pretending earthly problems don't matter or trying to manufacture the right emotions. It is about choosing where our hearts will be anchored, much like setting a cornerstone or choosing, day after day, to remain committed in a lifelong marriage. The gospel changes us from the inside out. Rather than simply trying to change our behavior and hoping our hearts eventually follow, God transforms our hearts and affections first. As our hearts become centered on Christ, our thoughts, choices, and actions begin to follow. So here's the question at the heart of this message: How is your heart, really?📖 Scripture: Colossians 3: 1- 4📍 Black Hills Cowboy Church
38. Putting Down the Highlighter
15:22||Season 3, Ep. 38I used to carry a leather-bound Bible with my name in gold letters, color-coded, underlined, worn soft at the edges from years of use. I loved what it said about me.In this episode, a sermon on Colossians 2 sends me back through my own story: a leadership class in Lexington, a habit I'm not proud of, and a 300-year-old sermon by John Wesley that finally named something in me I didn't have words for. It's a conversation about the difference between a spiritual discipline and a performance, and about what happens when a good thing quietly becomes a measuring stick.I don't land on a tidy answer. I'm still working it out. Maybe you are too.
37. Wrong Turns, Dead Ends
31:30||Season 3, Ep. 37What does it look like to stay on the right road in our faith journey? In this episode, we continue through Colossians 2 as Paul warns believers about the wrong turns that can quietly pull us away from the truth of Jesus. Human philosophy, religious rituals, spiritual powers, and man-made rules can all become distractions when they take our focus off Christ.Paul reminds us that the fullness of God dwells in Jesus. He is not simply one wise teacher among many or another voice offering spiritual advice. He is fully God, fully sufficient, and the sovereign Lord over all. That truth gives us a firm foundation when we're facing doubt, pressure, or the opinions of others. We don't have to measure our faith by someone else's spiritual checklist. We don't have to find our identity in rituals, rules, or religious performance. Our identity is found in Christ, and our connection to Him is what holds everything together.Join us as we consider the distractions that can pull us off course and return to the simple, powerful truth at the center of our faith: Jesus is enough.Scripture: Colossians 2: 8-23
