Episode 71: Beterbiev vs. Bivol preview and prediction

As if Usyk-Fury wasn't enough, Saudi sportswashing has come through for the fans again, as Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol put all the light-heavyweight titles on the line this coming Saturday!

Will Beterbiev's sledgehammer punches get the job done or will Bivol have the beautiful boxing to halt the juggernaut? It's about as compelling a match-up on paper as you'll find in all of combat sports. And I've got a bold prediction!

    29:56|
After a closely-contested and utterly compelling 12 rounds, Artur Beterbiev narrowly beat Dmitry Bivol to annex his title and stand atop the light-heavyweight mountain as the one and only King! But how did he do it, and do Bivol backers have any weight to their claims the decision rendered being a dodgy one? And after this win, where does Artur Beterbiev sit among the elite pound-for-pounders? To hear my thoughts on the rest of the card head on over to the Combat Chronicles Patreon!

Originally exclusive to the Combat Chronicles Patreon I thought I'd drop this audio documentary as a special episode 70 for this here feed! Hopefully you enjoy it and feel transported back to 2013, when Chris Weidman showed exactly what it took to beat Anderson Silva, the man then seen as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC and the greatest 185lber of all time. How did he do it? Why did it mean so much? And what is Weidman's legacy as a fighter? With the help of some very special guests, I try my best to tell the story of one of the most incredible moments in UFC history.

    20:41|
Both champion and challenger were brilliant in the UFC 302 headliner, but Islam Makhachev ultimately prevailed over Dustin Poirier by fifth round submission. I look into what made this fight so great, why it was important that Dustin Poirier bettered some of his other losing performances, and why Makhachev is the best fighter plying his trade right now.For more fight analysis including an extended edition of this episode (looking at Sean Strickland's win over Paulo Costa and the entirety of the latest pugilistic Saudi sportswashing spectacular!) be sure to check out the Combat Chronicles Patreon right here

    02:39:58|
How could I not devote a huge chunk of my waking hours this week to producing a near three-hour podcast all about one fight?!  How could I not enlist some heavy hitters to talk about the biggest fight we will see all year?Well luckily for you, I did, as Rob Tebbutt of Boxing News and the boys from the Heavy Hands podcast helped me out trying to figure out just how this super-fight will play out. There's little point saying much else here as there's a LOT said in this episode: Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk will be upon us sooner than you manage to listen to this behemoth of an episode I expect. So enjoy the fight. As fights like these don't come around often.
