Karen finds a body washed up on the beach below the satellite station. The town's morning routine shatters. Thompson is beginning to suspect that the "problem" Koestler Industries sent him to fix is considerably worse than a faulty dish.

Thompson's rental breaks down on a back road, and a seventeen-year-old mechanic named Mike is the only help for miles. In a town with a satellite station on the hill and no mobile signal, isolation takes on a new meaning.

The locals seem friendly enough, but Mata, the town's priest, has a quiet word with the newcomer. Something in Te Irirangi doesn't want Thompson here, and something else very much does.
