#107 - Midnight Mass - A Deep Dive into Mike Flanagan's Horror Magnum Opus
This week on The Cinedicate, returning guests Aaron of WSTR and horror screenwriter Doug Levinson return to unpack the deeply emotional miniseries, Midnight Mass by the master of Horror, Mike Flanagan.
As referenced in the beginning of the Jordan Peele director spotlight episode a couple years prior, we finally sit down at the cinematic roundtable to discuss the themes surrounding Mike Flanagan's magnum opus. From death and grief, to community and isolation, this series is a deep meditation that asks the viewer to look inward on their own beliefs.
Midnight Mass takes place in a small remote island town of Crockett. There the once bustling fishing community has been dwindling and dying over the decades. However, recent events breathed new life into the quiet town as a new priest arrives. Miracles surround the Catholic church on the island as it's congregation become healed from their aliments. Unbeknownst to the people of Crockett Island, a dark force begins to take hold on them.
