Cine-Lit finally gets around to continuing its look at Crime Cinema in all its many forms. This time we are taking a look at the scourge of the underworld, the champion of deduction Sherlock Holmes. We are focusing on the run of 14 films made between 1939 - 1946 featuring Basil Rathbone as the Great Detective and Nigel Bruce as Dr John Watson. Cine-Lit continues its adventures in "What If" country as we explore the unmade Hammer projects that were announced, mooted and, in some cases, scripted films, but that languish in the might-have-been archives. In this instalment, we look at the various attempts to bring more vampires back to Hammer with proposed new Count Dracula adventures, an unconventional biopic of Bram Stoker, and attempts to bring to the screen one of the most famous vampires from the world of comics.
