Tanning Beds Triple Melanoma Risk

New study from Northwestern Medicine uncovers alarming findings about tanning beds: they nearly triple melanoma risk and cause widespread DNA damage. Researchers discovered that tanning bed users had almost twice as many genetic mutations linked to melanoma. The study found that 5.1% of tanning bed users were diagnosed with melanoma, compared to 2.1% of non-users. Doctor Pedram Gerami, a lead researcher, calls for policy changes and advises those who frequently tanned earlier in life to get a full body skin exam.
