18. Dave Chislett (Music Journalist/Author/AntiGravity)
55:02||Season 1, Ep. 18Dave Chislett went from opening up for The Prodigy on their debut South African tour to being a major voice in SA music journalism, radio and band management. Progressing into public speaking, poetry and authorship, his thoroughly unique experience of and perspective on the South African music scene of the 90s and 00s made for a very interesting and refreshing conversation. Thank you to Dave for his time and patience getting this one over the line!Learn more about Dave's inspiring work here: https://davidchislett.com/

17. David Beretta Owens (Lithium/N8ive/Gimp/PitVirus)
01:49:28||Season 1, Ep. 17Dave Owens was/is the frontman for Lithium from Cape Town, a band who's reunited more than once but who I never got to see very often - despite their being one of my biggest early musical influences. He went on to form incredibly diverse projects including acoustic rockers N8ive, the nu-metal inspired Gimp, and most recently, the metallic PitVirus (alongside members of Vulvodynia). Lithium holds a special place in my heart, so this interview was an absolute joy to do! Thank you Dave.

15. Hanu De Jong (Not My Dog, The Narrow)
01:59:59||Season 1, Ep. 15Hanu De Jong is a powerful force as a live vocalist and frontman, but his artistic evolution also matches his onstage presence.Progressing from brawling, beer-soaked 7-string riffs and mind-bending time shifts with Not My Dog, he formed melodic rock outfit The Narrow in the early 00s with his brother Emile (also a co-founder of NMD), proving beyond doubt his ability to craft epic, evocative melodies and a not insignificant set of vocal chops. Hanu is astute, funny, kind and focused on constantly creating - all of which came through clearly in this awesome conversation.NOT MY DOG:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@notmydogbandSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/7p5v2JRt5D9QjHn3u8h16T?si=MZ_2k3AARPKdySg-I2Wk5wApple Music: https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/not-my-dog/472990925THE NARROW:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@hanu0303Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/00hP5aJk3HbvFpXzcBeSl3?si=8enxa0wVQ32XLoUjw9D3bQApple Music: https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/the-narrow/299435311
14. The South African Nu-Metal Roundtable (Pestroy, 16Stitch & Marlowe)
02:32:14||Season 1, Ep. 14The South African scene wouldn't be what it was without community - and there were arguably no stronger examples than the metal and punk communities that spanned the country. While there was friendly competition, there was ultimately support and collaboration at every turn. That's the era I came up in, and so talking with these three friends was not only a hilarious treat, but also very meaningful as we reconnect after some 20 years.I'll let the episode do the talking...PESTROY:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTydtWH0kF2VQlV_DP3MFuQhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/3baf1D1VQZUemM5vrukbLW?si=zNQxpOh9Srub4qOPBOT7vwhttps://music.apple.com/gb/artist/pestroy/25487573016STITCH:https://youtu.be/3XglpfkD2wI?si=VvEwoiWLYa0TASxiNEWTOWN KNIFE GANG:https://www.youtube.com/@newtownknifeganghttps://music.apple.com/gb/artist/newtown-knife-gang/437204292MARLOWE:13 videosPlay allhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/4ZY49Da5Jtv8pfmea1XWdu?si=AkZRbZG8Q0iFKHp9g_zz3Ahttps://music.apple.com/gb/album/lines-from-the-broken-telephone/1377206148HOKUMhttps://www.youtube.com/@HOKUMBANDSAhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/06zsO0gfNuux6sp6vSYRBV?si=XoSrJ-gbSmyoOmUc883J4ghttps://music.apple.com/gb/artist/hokum/379976432
