Catch Up with Louise McSharry
Catch Up with Daire Dempsey of TENI
When we talked about the National Gender Service during the news episode on Monday it occurred to me that it might be a good idea to find out more about what exactly trans people in Ireland are facing when it comes to accessing gender affirming care. Fortunately, Daire Dempsey, Executive Director of the Transgender Equality Network of Ireland was generous enough to give me their time and fill me in on what the reality is. I knew it was bad, but it's actually worse than I thought, but there is hope.
This one isn't short, but I didn't want to edit out any of the challenges being faced by Irish people, and I think its important that we educate ourselves on the challenges our trans brothers and sisters are facing so I hope you're up for dedicating a bit of time to that today.
NOTE: For some reason static started appearing in the background of the episode as we recorded, so halfway through you'll hear a shift in the audio as we changed platforms.
