Blues away, ah ha, ah ha, I like it, ah ha, ah ha [Altrincham (A) Review, Salford City (H) FA Cup Preview] - Season 26/27, Episode 24

Season 7, Ep. 24
•

Over 1,000 travelling Blues cheering on a sixth win from the last seven in all competitions - the feel-good factor is firmly back at Carlisle United!

An entertaining 4-2 victory on the road at Altrincham capped off an extraordinary week for the club, keeping our momentum surging and lifting United right within touching distance of the National League play-off spots.

Before unpacking the action at Moss Lane, Lee, Dan, and Mike kick off with some well-deserved recognition on the news desk: both head coach Rob Elliot and captain Morgan Feeney being officially shortlisted for October’s National League Manager and Player of the Month awards.

We then get stuck into the Altrincham debrief. While the Manchester weather was far kinder than last season's downpour, the first half was a bit of a washout in terms of quality - before an electric second half saw all five United substitutes make an enormous impact. We break down Callum Camps’ stunning volley on his full debut, Micah Obiero’s ice-cool composure to restore the lead, and a moment to remember at the death as Academy graduate Jonah Lowes celebrated his first senior professional goal in front of the away end after returning from his loan spell at Darlington.

From there, all eyes turn to the FA Cup First Round on Saturday as League Two leaders Salford City visit Brunton Park. Can the Blues pull off an "upset" against the high-flying Ammies?

City spent big in the summer with a squad brimming with EFL pedigree - including Macaulay Langstaff, Brendan Wiredu, Joe Powell, and Luke Molyneux - but having pushed them close in pre-season with a scratch backline, can United go one better this time? Plus, we assess huge squad boosts as Luke Armstrong returns from long-term injury, with Jack Ellis and Georgie Kelly also available for selection once more.

To wrap things up, we run through the usual ex-Blues round-up from across the leagues.

Our opposition preview chats drop on matchday mornings before every weekend and midweek fixture to get you prepped for kick-off. Ahead of Saturday's FA Cup First Round tie at Brunton Park, Lee is joined by Danny from Salford City podcast The Future is Orange to get the lowdown on the high-flying League Two leaders. It has been quite the transformation down at Moor Lane over the last few years. From boardroom restructuring and the Class of '92 bringing in fresh corporate backing, to parting ways with Karl Robinson and appointing Australian head coach Peter Cklamovski, the Ammies have navigated a summer spending spree and an early wobble to surge right to the summit of the fourth tier. In this episode, we discuss:🍊 The Future is Orange: Returning to their roots - why Salford ditching red for orange shirts was backed by supporters, David Beckham’s marketing vision, Gary Neville's shifting role, and revived talk of a ground move to the AJ Bell Stadium. 🐨 The Cklamovski Revolution: Saying goodbye to Karl Robinson, the arrival of Ange Postecoglou’s former disciple Peter Cklamovski via Manchester City links, and his surprisingly pragmatic tactical blueprint. 💰 Summer Splurge & Squad Depth: Big-money arrivals like Macaulay Langstaff and Luke Molyneux, adding midfield steel through Brendan Wiredu and Elliott Bonds, and whether the Ammies will heavily rotate with promotion as priority number one. 🔄 Familiar Faces & The 'Million-Pound' Myth: Luke Armstrong facing his former loan club, and the hilarious backstory behind Karl Robinson dubbing Junior Luamba a "million-pound asset". 🏆 Cup Priorities & Pre-Season Clues: Shrugging off past FA Cup hammerings against Man City, what can be gleaned from July’s Brunton Park friendly, and Danny giving a detailed match breakdown and score prediction. • 23. The Harrogate Hoodoo is over - and we only needed nine men! [Harrogate Town (H) Review. Altrincham (A) Preview] - Season 26/27, Episode 23

    01:23:15||Season 7, Ep. 23
    A night under the Brunton Park lights that nobody present will ever forget! Facing our ultimate bogey side Harrogate Town, the Blues pulled off a frankly miraculous 3-0 victory - playing with nine men for around 70 minutes following two first-half red cards, defending like absolute gladiators, and sensationally scoring two of our three goals after being reduced to nine.Before unpacking Tuesday night's madness, Lee, Nick, and Mike get stuck into a double dose of positive news: club captain Morgan Feeney committing his future to Brunton Park with a contract extension until 2029, and midfielder Callum Camps arriving on a two-month loan from Stockport County. We then conduct the full Harrogate debrief - debating whether the dismissals were harsh, waxing lyrical about Feeney’s heroic man-of-the-match display at the back, marvelling at Ryan Galvin’s utterly ridiculous strike, and asking the big question: is this the iconic, galvanising result that truly wins over the fanbase for Rob Elliot?From there, attention shifts to Saturday’s trip to Greater Manchester to take on this season's early surprise package, Altrincham. Sitting pretty in the play-offs a third of the way into the campaign, the Robins look set for a much stronger season thanks to some astute summer recruitment. We preview the clash, look at the reunion storyline with strikers Regan Linney and Kristian Dennis both facing their former clubs, and explore how United reshuffle the pack if our red card appeals don't go our way.Lots discussed in this episode, including:📰 News Desk: Captain Morgan Feeney commits to 2029 & Callum Camps arrives on loan from Stockport County🟡 Harrogate Town (H) Reviewed: The nine-men miracle—heroic defending, Feeney's masterclass, Galvin’s wonder-goal & Rob Elliot's turning point?🟥 The Red Card Inquest: Dissecting the two dismissals and how United cope if the appeals are unsuccessful🐦 Altrincham (A) Preview: Facing the flying Robins, smart recruitment, play-off credentials & Linney and Dennis facing their former sides Host: Lee Rooney (@leerooney)Co-Hosts: Mike Booth (@cufcmike) & Nick Brown (@Nick_Brown86)------------------------📲 Connect with us: X (Twitter): @bruntonbugleFacebook: Search "Brunton Bugle"Instagram: @bruntonbugleEmail: bruntonbugle@gmail.com ------------------------ 🤝 Proudly Sponsored by CUSTWe’re delighted to be sponsored once again by the Carlisle United Supporters Trust (CUST) for the 2026/27 season.CUST (originally formed in 2001 as CCUIST and later known as CUOSC) is a democratic, community benefit society holding 10% voting control in CUFC Holdings Ltd and affiliated with the Football Supporters' Association (FSA).🚍 Away Travel Discount: CUST runs away buses to many fixtures throughout the season - with members getting a 10% discount!🌐 Find out more or join today: www.cust.org.uk | X: @CUFCTrust ------------------------ ☕ Support the PodWe love bringing you content for the Blues fanbase across the globe and will always do it for free, but if you’d like to help us cover hosting, studio, and equipment costs for the 2026/27 season, you can make a contribution on our Ko-Fi page:👉 ko-fi.com/bruntonbugle Every contribution makes a huge difference and is massively appreciated!

    01:10:23||Season 7, Ep. 22
    Three away wins on the spin, our first comeback victory of the campaign, and the Blues are officially into the top half of the table! It was far from pretty in the dreadful weather at Damson Park, but United showed bags of character to turn things around in the second half and take all three points against Solihull Moors.Before dissecting the match, Lee and Dan start with some important off-field news - sending our collective love and very best wishes to Carlisle United legend Dean Walling following the recent announcement of his prostate cancer diagnosis. Once a Blue, always a Blue and remember - follow Deano's advice and if you are concerned, get yourself checked out at a Doctor. Find out more at Prostate Cancer UK's website.We then get stuck into the Solihull debrief: an ugly, rain-swept battle that turned completely on its head thanks to a decisive triple substitution on the hour mark. We look at Morgan Feeney becoming our first centre-back to find the net this season, David Ajiboye making an instant impact off the bench to grab the winner, strong displays from Richardson and Duru, and the grit required to grind out results when things aren't going your way.From there, attention shifts to Tuesday night under the Brunton Park lights as we welcome our ultimate bogey side, Harrogate Town. With United still searching for a first-ever league victory over the Sulphurites (our only previous win coming in that boycotted B-team trophy), we look at what makes them such a tricky customer. Plus, we discuss the remarkable takeover news at Wetherby Road - with manager Simon Weaver taking ownership of the club from his dad, Irving - and ask whether Harrogate are quietly emerging as this season's dark horses.Lots discussed in this episode, including:💙 Best Wishes to Deano: Sending our love and support to Blues legend Dean Walling following his prostate cancer diagnosis🌲 Solihull Moors (A) Reviewed: 2-1 comeback win in awful conditions - game-changing triple sub, Feeney's first goal of the campaign, Ajiboye's winner & cracking shifts from Richardson and Duru🟡 Harrogate Town (H) Preview: Facing our bogey side under the BP lights, the Weaver family ownership change and assessing whether Town are play-off contenders🔄 Ex-Blues Round-Up: Catching up with former Carlisle players across the divisionsHost: Lee Rooney (@leerooney)Co-Host: Dan MacLennan (@dancufc) ------------------------📲 Connect with us: X (Twitter): @bruntonbugleFacebook: Search "Brunton Bugle"Instagram: @bruntonbugleEmail: bruntonbugle@gmail.com ------------------------ 🤝 Proudly Sponsored by CUSTWe’re delighted to be sponsored once again by the Carlisle United Supporters Trust (CUST) for the 2026/27 season.CUST (originally formed in 2001 as CCUIST and later known as CUOSC) is a democratic, community benefit society holding 10% voting control in CUFC Holdings Ltd and affiliated with the Football Supporters' Association (FSA).🚍 Away Travel Discount: CUST runs away buses to many fixtures throughout the season - with members getting a 10% discount!🌐 Find out more or join today: www.cust.org.uk | X: @CUFCTrust ------------------------ ☕ Support the PodWe love bringing you content for the Blues fanbase across the globe and will always do it for free, but if you’d like to help us cover hosting, studio, and equipment costs for the 2026/27 season, you can make a contribution on our Ko-Fi page:👉 ko-fi.com/bruntonbugle Every contribution makes a huge difference and is massively appreciated!

    FA Cup progression secured and our name in the hat for the First Round proper! A 2-1 victory over Tamworth in the Fourth Qualifying Round got the job done on Saturday, even if the final scoreline made the afternoon look far tighter than it actually was. With cup business handled, the Blues now turn their attention straight back to league duties and a trip down the M6 to take on struggling Solihull Moors.Lee, Mike, and Nick kick off with the week's big news as the FA Cup First Round draw handed United a tough home tie, with League Two leaders Salford City heading to Brunton Park on the weekend of November 7th.We then get stuck into the Tamworth debrief - breaking down a dominant display where Regan Linney bagged a clinical brace and United had no fewer than four efforts cleared off the line. We also look at impressive full debuts from Tom Anderson and Kenton Richardson, plus a special family milestone as young Will Rafferty came off the bench to make his senior debut half a century after his grandad, Billy Rafferty, was pulling on the blue shirt.Finally, we preview Saturday's trip to Damson Park. The Moors are enduring a torrid campaign at the wrong end of the table, shipping goals at a staggering rate of nearly three per game. Can the Blues exploit their defensive fragilities and keep the momentum going? 01:14:02||Season 7, Ep. 20
    Just as it felt like the Blues were finally building a head of steam, Saturday served up an almighty damp squib at Brunton Park. A flat, frustrating 0-0 stalemate against Kidderminster Harriers brought our winning run to a grinding halt in a game that won't live long in the memory.With no off-field news to distract us this week, Lee and Adam get straight into dissecting a lethargic display. We break down how United fell into Harriers' game-slowing trap, moved the ball far too slowly, and struggled to find the spark needed to unlock a stubborn defence. Yet despite the sluggish afternoon, the Blues still had the chances to nick all three points - rattling the woodwork and seeing Regan Linney’s penalty saved - leaving supporters frustrated by an afternoon of missed opportunities.From there, we switch focus to the world’s oldest cup competition as United prepare for an FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Tamworth at Brunton Park. We look at how the Lambs have fared so far this campaign, examine their recent non-league cup pedigree, and get stuck into the big debate: with a demanding league season to navigate, should an FA Cup run actually be any sort of priority for the club right now?Lots discussed in this episode, including:🦅 Kidderminster Harriers (H) Reviewed: 0-0 frustration - lethargic tempo, falling for game management tactics and Linney's penalty heartbreak🐑 Tamworth (A) FA Cup Preview: Assessing the Lambs, non-league cup pedigree & debating whether a cup run is a priority or a distraction🔄 Ex-Blues Round-Up: Catching up with former Carlisle players across the divisionsHost: Lee Rooney (@leerooney)Co-Host: Adam Tiffen (@AdamTiffen18)------------------------📲 Connect with us:X (Twitter): @bruntonbugleFacebook: Search "Brunton Bugle"Instagram: @bruntonbugleEmail: bruntonbugle@gmail.com ------------------------ 🤝 Proudly Sponsored by CUSTWe’re delighted to be sponsored once again by the Carlisle United Supporters Trust (CUST) for the 2026/27 season.CUST (originally formed in 2001 as CCUIST and later known as CUOSC) is a democratic, community benefit society holding 10% voting control in CUFC Holdings Ltd and affiliated with the Football Supporters' Association (FSA).🚍 Away Travel Discount: CUST runs away buses to many fixtures throughout the season - with members getting a 10% discount!🌐 Find out more or join today: www.cust.org.uk | X: @CUFCTrust ------------------------ ☕ Support the PodWe love bringing you content for the Blues fanbase across the globe and will always do it for free, but if you’d like to help us cover hosting, studio, and equipment costs for the 2026/27 season, you can make a contribution on our Ko-Fi page:👉 ko-fi.com/bruntonbugle Every contribution makes a huge difference and is massively appreciated!

    Two wins on the spin, six points in four days, and the Blues are finally building some genuine momentum! A clinical 3-1 victory on the road at Aldershot Town saw United back up the midweek win at Fylde in style, pushing us within touching distance of the top half of the table.
