S7 Ep. 1 Joanna Simpson - The British Airways Killer

Season 7, Ep. 1

We are back after the summer break with the terribly sad story of the murder and subsequent miscarriage of justice of Joanna Simpson.

On the evening of 31st October 2010, 46 year old mum of two, Joanna Simpson became yet another statistic. Another woman killed by the hand of the man she once loved and who had loved her. Robert Brown was her estranged husband and father of her kids who that afternoon, right in front of the children beat Joanna to death.

This violent act was the culmination of years of abuse and controlling behaviour. We explore how domestic abuse comes in many forms and how anyone from any walk of life can become a victim.

Sources for this month's episode are the brilliant podcast, the Crime Analyst and the ITV show, The British Airways Killer amongst others.

  • Bonnie & Clyde - The Original Natural Born Killers

    39:04|
    In 1932-33 there was a small time criminal gang known as the Barrow gang, active in the surrounding area of Dallas. The gang were known and wanted for various crimes locally but worldwide notoriety was just around the corner for two members of the gang. In April 1933 police officers raided a house in Joplin, Missouri planning to bust bootleggers. However it wasn’t and was in fact the current hideout of the Barrow gang. The gang members fled so quickly that they had to leave behind all of their possessions including a camera full of undeveloped film. When that film was developed the photos were so explosive that a legend was born, the legend of Bonnie and Clyde.

    Hey y'all, welcome and join us, Cazza and Lozza as we take a look at when celebs screw up. This week we are taking a light hearted look at the times some of the worlds biggest stars have ended up doing community service for misdemeanours. For instance, we look at the time when George Michael's Range Rover ploughed into a Snappy Snaps photo shop and the infamous events in the Hollywood hills, when Hugh Grant was arrested for getting a bit frisky in his car with a sex worker.And who can forget the fashion show put on by Naomi Campbell at her designated community service destination - the New York City refuse department.Written and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!Contact us at bluemurderclub@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClub
  • 10. S6 Ep. 10 Rachel Manning - Miscarriage of Justice

    49:02||Season 6, Ep. 10
    Welcome to this week's episode, the case of the murder of Rachel Manning and the miscarriage of justice that followed.On a cold December evening in the year 2000 a young couple, Rachel and Barri had been to Barri's mum's 40th birthday party and then went out clubbing in town, after.In traditional style the evening ended with a kebab and a punch up before they went their separate ways home. Within an hour Barri received a phone call from Rachel, asking him for a lift as she was lost and was having difficulty getting a cab. Little did Barri know that this was the last time he would ever hear Rachel's voice, as shortly after she was abducted and murdered in a random attack, her body being found two days later.This was the beginning of a living nightmare for Barri and his friend Keith, who very shortly after would find themselves prime suspects for the brutal crime.Horrifyingly the pair were convicted and sent to prison for a crime they didn't commit on very little evidence.In despair Keith wrote to everyone he could think of for help, including the BBC program, Rough Justice. The team took on the case and after many years they finally managed to get the conviction overturned and the men walked free as innocent men. But if they hadn't killed Rachel then who had? Listen this week as Loz and Caz reveal the astonishing details behind this miscarriage of justice case.With credit to the brilliant documentary: Wrongly Accused : The Case of Barri WhiteWritten and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!Contact us at bluemurderclub@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubPhotography by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen
