"Black" Woman Speaks Arabic

Patois is to English as Swahili is to Arabic

Season 1, Ep. 5
Is Patois an Afro - English language?...and is Swahili an Arabic based language? There are many cases where if you speak a particular language then you are rendered to be of upper class, while slowly degrading the other languages and in turn the people who speak it. In the English speaking Western world, the romantic languages are deemed to be of sophisticated nature. Likewise, in the Arabic speaking world, Egyptian Arabic appears to be deemed like the French of Paris. In this episode, another look at the languages otherwise classified as not so popular....or what do you think?

To be seen, heard, acknowledged and understood is an innate desire that we all crave as human beings.Statistics have shown that the mortality rate of ''Black'' mothers in the hospital ward is up to 4 times higher than Caucasian mothers in the west. • 6. Letting it Flow - My Arabic Learning Journey as a ''Black'' Woman

    21:03
My Arabic learning journey like many others started out as a human experience. A soulful experience in a little body as a little girl, but that experience changed. What was that soulful experience like, what changed it, and can those very same causes possibly effect the vigour of other ''Black'' women who may be either at the start of her Arabic learning journey or whom have after decades decided to throw in the towel, or at least have a relationship with the language with less enthusiasm? What are some common themes playing out unintentionally in the majority of Arabic learning spaces attended by ''Black'' women in the West?In this episode, I share some of my Arabic learning journey both as a student and as a teacher. What was your experience like as a ''Black'' female body cruising on an Arabic learning journey? And if you haven't embarked on a journey yet, what would you like it to be like? What resonated with you in today's episode? Let's hear you in the comments, sis!
  • 5. Healing From a Narcissist

    43:05
Trigger warning!...or as today's guest speaker says ''minefield'' alert! If at any moment in time you need to pause, do take advantage of the pause button, and remember to keep breathing, sister, because I forgot, lol. It takes courage to seek professional help, so if you need it take courage and seek it!There's a lot of hype online about narcissism, and thus it's a term that can be overused and misused due to someone's inappropriate behaviour within a relationship and or within a marriage. So what is misbehaviour versus a narcissistic behaviour? What does love bombing look like on the receiving end?And should the person blame themselves and deserve to be shamed for choosing a life partner that results in an abusive relationship? Is the person a victim or otherwise? How can the person be supported? And above all, is healing possible and what things are noteworthy of thinking about when seeking professional help when taking the courageous decision to climb out of the rut, and embark on a life changing and transformational healing journey? In this episode, my guest speaker sister - Kaleema Overton Ameen author of 'Hidden in Plain Sight - Are You Being Groomed For Love-Bombing, Spirit-Breaking and Abandonment', and I navigate through the above questions and get insight on an Arabic phrase that she feel gives her power, confidence and more.BiographyKaleema is a Federal Policy Analyst specializing in health care policy and disaster relief programs. She has managed programs for the Centers for Disease Control; The U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services just to name a few. • 4. Afro-Arab

    08:06
Afro-Arab tribes?! A centuries old route between the African continent and the then Arabian peninsula?Just how old is the connection between the many inhabitants of Africa and the Arabic language? Stagnancy is not the nature of this world and so its people too are of a dynamic nature. The formation, the re-shaping of and a change in the demographics of a nation or tribe through its intermingling of its individuals with other ethnic groups is a world wide phenomena. In this episode I zoom in on a specific African tribe that has dispersed into various places both within and outside the African continent including within the Arab world. Another rhetoric, however has it that they originally came from Iraq and migrated to West Africa.
  • 3. Letting it Flow - Remembering Fatima Al-Zahra

    01:12
I'd been observing an energy block, recently.A lot of clutter.Whilst doing a lot of decluttering and engaging more in activities that replenish me, I was listening to an African melody, and thought how can this be changed in a way that resonates with me and my remembrance of a lady that I held dear. This is the result. It doesn't sound like the original attempt, but close enough to share with you*.What are some ways that you can do to declutter to help your energy flow before you bid 2023 farewell?Let's hear you in the comments*[As we are approaching the Christmas season, I remember Lady Mariam (virgin Mary) a.s, Lady Aasiya (Pharoah's wife), Lady Khadija a.s and Lady Fatima al-Zahra a.s whom, are highly revered in my faith, Islam.]
  • 2. The Anti-Racist Educator - How to Be an Anti-Racist

    39:01
Obstacles to establishing social cohesion, and empathy amongst the various communities within a society are numerous. Some may only have in view the differences that exist between communities, and render it something to fear rather than a beauty to embrace.''If you are not like me, then you are the other, and so I shy away in an attempt to erase you from my world of familiarity, or I fight it in the an attempt to protect the safety box that I live in, in the guise of hatred, animosity, micro-aggressions, passive aggressiveness, overt and covert racism.''In this episode of the new season, we'll be navigating through one of the things that I believe can be a glue that bears the fruit of connecting communities together, but may require facing some hard truths...racism. How would you define racism?...and is it enough to say ''I'm a nice person, I'm not racist?'', ''I'm a spiritual person, I'm not racist?'' or I'm religious, I'm not racist?''Join the discussion with Parenting Educator, School Counsellor and Ati-Racism Educator Nykesha Geeter in the comments. If you'd like to learn more from Nykesha, she can be reached at:IG: @TheAntiRacismEducator_Website: Linktr.ee/NykSage
