Sonia is joined by Jude Feranmi of Raising New Voices, journalist Murtala Abdullahi, and a representative of SARS Watch. They look at the factors that contributed to fuelling the start of protests against corrupt policing, and why it is that young people in Nigeria are particularly frustrated. They also discuss the generational divide, and the financial impact that the diaspora had on activism in Nigeria.

On April 27, 1961 Sierra Leone became independent. Sonia is Joined by Koehun, a young Sierra Leonean historian who enjoys reimagining the future, and Junior, another young Sierra Leone who is also a history enthusiast. Together, they discuss pre colonial history in Sierra Leone, ethnic tensions in Sierra Leone, and what led to independence. As Sierra Leone enters its 60th year of independence, they question if anything will really change, and what we can do to help.

Joined by Moctar Kane, African Union Ambassador for Peace, Sonia discusses the patterns in Mali which are leading to multiple coup attempts. As Mali enters a transition period before having a new government, they question if anything will really change, and Moctar shares his long term hopes for Mali. The protests which happened are another example of recent action against oppression in Africa.

There was a lot of attention on the recent protests in Zimbabwe, with #ZimbabweanLivesMatter trending on social media. But why did the protests happen? Are young people feeling optimistic about the future of Zimbabwe? Sonia, Cindy and Tapiwanashe discuss the current major issues in Zimbabwe, and what needs to happen next.
