E9: Finding Community with Mary Knightsriders from Women2Wheels SA

Season 1, Ep. 9

This week is all about ways to find community and connection with other motorcyclists. We talk to our special guest, Mary Knightsriders, one of the admins of Women2Wheels SA, an online network for women motorcyclists in South Australia.

Mary Knightsriders is a passionate motorcycle enthusiast and has been in the saddle for the better part of 20 years. In that time, she has dabbled in lots of road riding, track riding and off-road adventures.  Her skills have been built up purely with time in the saddle and by undertaking skills training for road and off-road riding. She likes to spanner her own bike and this has taught her a lot about the science of motorcycles and they are not mysterious!

Mary enjoys following many aspects of motorcycle sports but especially admires women riders who take on the tough world of enduro racing and those travelling solo around the world. Being a diminutive lady, Mary had to overcome the hurdle of tall bikes as in her early days of riding as being able to lower a bike was just not the practice!

Mary is a casual freelance writer, and she has done a few publicity pieces to help promote women in motorcycling.  She writes for Woman Moto, an Australian/New Zealand women’s online motorcycle magazine and has been interviewed for media pieces that help promote women in motorsport and motorcycling in general.   SA Life Magazine, Advertiser Newspaper, Local newspapers.

Mary likes to think herself as an influencer, helping women get into motorcycling, whether it be through sharing her knowledge and experience, or talking to those in the motorcycling world, especially businesses to bring awareness of the growing customer base of women riders and their needs when they walk into their shop to buy products and services.
