Better Lait Than Never
The Oilers are so back, and Connor McDavid closes in on 1000 points
Is there anything better than a brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never to celebrate the midway point of the week? No, of course not. This week, I talked about Connor McDavid being one point away from 1000, Viktor Arvidsson being banged up, my excitement for the Tyson/Paul fight, and much more.
I kicked off this week's episode of BLTN by recapping my idea about how many days I could live on nothing but Costco hot dogs. I was talking about this at my house the other day and was surprised by the lack of support I was getting for what could end up as funny content. I also discussed the feedback I've received so far for the new Better Lait Than Never logo I made this past week, and much to my surprise, many folks loved it.
Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the news with another tribute to Connor McDavid, who is now only a single point away from 1000 after a four-point performance last night against the Islanders. When McDavid is at his best, there's no one more entertaining to watch in this sport, and the Islanders got a dose of what that felt like on Tuesday night. I also looked ahead at Edmonton's upcoming schedule, and with the Nashville Predators in town on Thursday, I'm banking on a big night from the Dynamic Duo.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about getting older before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was alive with beef this week, and that made me laugh and laugh. If you've been listening to the podcast for any length of time, you know that I love hip hop, and beef sells records. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

223. Wedding season, trade rumours, and Oilers extension watch
43:52||Ep. 223It's Wednesday smack dab in the middle of the NHL dead zone, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was another slow news week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed some of the wild Oilers rumours, wedding season, the Matthew Tkachuk NHL '26 cover, and whatever else has happened over the last seven days. We're smack dab in the middle of the off-season dead zone, which meant there wasn't a whole lot of Oilers news to talk about this week, but I did check off the Edmonton-related items that came across my feed. Starting with what was a busy wedding week for the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl was the big one that everyone was talking about, as many of his current and former teammates congregated in France for the big day. From there, I ran through a list of items from insane rumours to Tyler Wright ending up in Los Angeles to four Oilers being invited to Olympic orientation camp. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a pair of Righteous Sack Beatings before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quiet but mighty this week, and as always, the messages were still as fun as ever. The voicemails are a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/himynameisbaggedmilk/Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jsbmbaggedmilkSHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼 Star Mechanical: https://starmechanical.ca/ 👍🏼 Odd Company Brewing: https://www.oddcompany.ca/222. Do the Oilers have a run of contract extensions coming?
43:36||Ep. 222It's Wednesday smack dab in the middle of the NHL dead zone, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was another slow news week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers' potential extension list, Connor McDavid, Stan Bowman updates on the negotiation, and whatever else has happened over the last seven days. With not much going on around the NHL these days, I started this week's podcast with a trip to the rumour mill after Bob Stauffer speculated on Oilers Now that the Oilers could be getting some significant business done over the next month. Of course, nothing Bob said is written in stone, but that doesn't mean I wasn't still able to have some fun with the rumours. Sticking with contract extensions, I ran through the latest rumblings about Connor McDavid's upcoming extension, including potential dollar and term numbers from Frank Seravalli. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about shrinkflation before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter this week, but the messages were still as fun as ever. As always, the voicemails are a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Grinding through the Oilers' off-season dead zone
51:23||Ep. 221It's Wednesday in the middle of the NHL dead zone, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was a slow news week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers' off-season dead zone, Ozzy Osbourne's passing away, TV and whatever else has happened over the last seven days. There's not a whole lot going on in Edmonton Oilers land these days, which meant for a very random episode of BLTN. While the team hasn't done much over the last week, we did get a few interviews from Kris Knoblauch and Stan Bowman that provided some details on where the Oilers are at heading into next season. Either way, we're still weeks away from anything exciting happening barring some kind of trade or Connor McDavid extension, so the's little doubt that the Oilers talk was definitely lighter this week. Did that mean I didn't try to stretch out the news as long as possible anyway? Of course not. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about Uber annoyances before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter this week, but the messages were still as fun as ever. As always, the voicemails are a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Oilers make moves, reality TV, and the Black Parade
57:15||Ep. 220It's the Wednesday after the start of NHL free agency, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was another busy week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers trading for Isaac Howard, coaching changes, a big music weekend, and delved into anything else I missed last week while I was away.I kicked off this week's podcast with a recap of everything I got up to last week while I was on holidays, including my trip to Seattle, the concerts I saw, the TV shows I watched, and a throwback to 2002 that's taken over my life. Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I looked at some of the moves and news that happened over the last week and wondered how much is still to come before the 2025-26 season kicks off in a few months. Seeing as the schedule dropped this week, the countdown to the new season is on, and I wondered how close to a finished product the Oilers are as we speak in mid-July.Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about Uber annoyances before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter again this week, but the messages were still as fun as ever. As always, the voicemails are a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Recapping the Oilers' slow start to free agency
55:04||Ep. 219It's the Wednesday after the start of NHL free agency, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was another busy week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers signing Andrew Mangiapane to a two-year deal, Evan Bouchard's extension, said goodbye to some old friends, and much more.We made it through the NHL draft and the start of free agency, and the Edmonton Oilers were quieter than many fans had hoped they would be, but I wasn't actually all that surprised. Given the lack of tradable assets and minimal cap space available, from my side of the computer screen, I wasn't overly surprised that the Oilers were quiet even though my heart hoped Stan Bowman would pull out some magic. Looking at some of the contracts GMs handed out around the league as the day wore on, I found myself feeling increasingly happier that Stan Bowman wasn't blowing the dollars he had on players like Tanner Jeannot and Cody Ceci. I'm not saying I wanted the Oilers to go out and sign those guys, but my point was that some very mid players locked in for a pile of money. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about overreacting to free agency before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter again this week, but the messages were still as fun as ever. As always, the voicemails are a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Looking back on Evander Kane's time with the Oilers and what's to come
01:11:12||Ep. 218It's the Wednesday leading into the NHL draft and start of free agency, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap what was another busy week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the Evander Kane trade to the Canucks, wondered what the Viktor Arvidsson deal will ultimately look like, the Oilers' brass meeting with Connor McDavid's agent, and much more. While I think a lot of Oilers fans thought the team would trade Evander Kane to save some cap space this summer, I don't think many of us expected it to happen this soon, especially not to a division rival like the Vancouver Canucks. Yet, despite the seeming unlikelihood of the deal, Kane announced the trade via his Twitter account shortly after the NHL insiders started to hear rumblings that it was happening. Despite being a solid player, the Oilers desperately needed the cap space the move created, while the sentiment in Vancouver wasn't quite as optimistic. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about plane etiquette before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter this week, but the messages were still all over the map. As always, the voicemails are always a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone an opportunity to say their piece. Oilers go out with a whimper in the Stanley Cup Final
59:46||Ep. 217It's the Wednesday after the boys fell to the Florida Panthers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers win. On today's podcast, I examined what went wrong, discussed the Oilers' struggles, Trent Frederic's reported contract extension, and more. It's hard to feel much sunshine the day after the Edmonton Oilers bowed out of the Stanley Cup Final in only six games. After picking up massive OT wins in Games 1 and 4, the Oilers were in great shape heading back to Rogers Place on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the wheels really fell off when the lights got brightest, as the boys were outplayed by a sizeable margin in the following two. The Panthers were so much better in Games 5 and 6 that you almost wondered which Oilers team you were watching. It certainly wasn't the one that stormed through the first three rounds and made things look easy. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about being a sports fan before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was fantastic this week, and the messages were all over the map. As always, I finished up the show with another round of voicemails after yet another disappointing playoff exit. Oilers take Game 1 over the Panthers with Leon Draisaitl OT winner
01:11:29||Ep. 215It's the Wednesday after the boys rallied to beat the Florida Panthers in Game 1, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers win. On today's podcast, I looked at the Stanley Cup Final, discussed the Oilers' comeback win, Mattias Ekholm's return, and more.I'm still on cloud nine after last night's Game 1 win, so I didn't really want to spend much time talking about anything other than what happened on Wednesday at Rogers Place. From the Mega Stream kicking off the day to making my way to the rink with Woz to stressing through a very tight game against Florida, everything about Wednesday night was a blast, and I could not be more excited about what the boys can do in the rest of this series. The stars shone bright, the depth came through, Stuart Skinner battled hard in net, and the Oilers ended up with their first Stanley Cup Final series lead in 35 years. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about standing at hockey games before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was fantastic this week, and the messages were all over the map. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to most.
