Beth’s Bookshelf Podcast: #6 Meredith Russo – If I Was Your Girl, Transgender Characters in Literature, and Art. Today’s episode of Beth’s Bookshelf is going to be really interesting because I have Meredith Russo along with me to talk about her book; If I Was Your Girl. If I Was Your Girl is a story that has meant to so much to people everywhere and is a huge inspiration. It was chosen by Zoella for her WHSmith book club, and is a huge hit on Goodreads! Meredith Russo is on the podcast today to talk about the process of writing the fantastic novel, the inspiration behind the plot and characters, and about the representation of transgender characters in literature. We also had a chat about how just because you’re an artist, particularly an artist belonging to a minority group, doesn’t mean it’s your responsibility to always talk about ‘the struggle’. Meredith is an incredibly interesting writer and I can’t wait to see what other works she brings us. You can follow her for updates @Mer_Squared. I hope you enjoy our conversation. If you do, please subscribe to Beth’s Bookshelf on iTunes and leave me a rating! If you’ve listened to the podcast and fancy giving If I Was Your Girl a read, you can purchase the book here! Make sure to follow me on Goodreads so you can see what I’m reading in real-time, and my thoughts on certain books! This podcast is a collection of conversations with creative writers, perfect for lovers of literature and/or inspiring writers. Today’s episode is a super exciting one because I have the wonderful Michael Grant with me. Egmont Publishing Group invited me to go down to their offices and interview Michael about his trilogy; Front Lines for the podcast, and it was a super exciting day! Michael is the author of around 160 books, some co-written with his wife. These include the Animorphs series, the Gone series, the BZRK series, the Magnificent 12 series, the Messenger of Fear series, and soon Soldier Girl series. He’s on the podcast today to talk about his new series, Front Lines, where he manipulates the story of WW2 and writes the events of what could have happened if women were allowed to fight on the front line alongside men. We also have a bit of a chat about hidden stories from the time of the war, that Michael wants to write about. You can follow Michael on Twitter for updates @MichaelGrantBks. He also has a personal Facebook page at AuthorMichaelGrant, which is public and he makes a few announcements on there too. • Beth’s Bookshelf Podcast: #4 Ava Dellaira – Creativity, Letters, and Self Promotion

    44:10
Welcome to the Beth’s Bookshelf podcast, hosted on iTunes, Acast, and right here on my blog (otherwise, how would you be here?!) For today’s episode, my guest is Ava Dellaira, which has me fangirling just a bit as we’re discussing her novel; Love Letters to the dead, which I was obsessed with a couple of years ago, when it first came out. Love Letters to the Dead is Ava’s first young adult fiction novel, surrounding themes of death, grief, friendship, and growth. The book follows the protagonist, Laurel, after she loses her sister and begins to write letters to dead celebrities she once admired (such as Kurt Cobain and other famous faces we’ve unfortunately lost) in order to move on. Want to know more? You’ll have to buy the book Today, Ava Dellaira is on the podcast with me to discuss her creative routine, how long it takes to write the first draft of your novel, the importance and sentiment behind writing letters, and how to promote yourself as a writer in the age of social media. It was really cool to talk to her and learn about how Ava’s creativity works, and her story of when the novel was first published. I learned some things about Ava and the book that I didn’t know before this episode. I hope it’s helpful to you, too! Follow Ava Dellaira on Twitter@avadellaira Hit ‘Play’ below to listen and subscribe on iTunes now! Sidenote: I’m now behaving properly on Goodreads! Come and say hello and add me as a friend if you like! You can see what I’m reading and be extra nosey by seeing what I think of certain books! And since I’m so nosey, I’ll peek around your shelves, too.   Save Save The post Beth’s Bookshelf Podcast: #4 Ava Dellaira – Creativity, Letters, and Self Promotion appeared first on My Blog.
  • Beth’s Bookshelf Podcast: #3 Erin Summerill – Ever the Hunted, book recommendations & some nattering!

    01:04:33
Today I’m bringing you the third episode of my podcast, Beth’s Bookshelf. I hope you’ve been enjoying the podcast so far. I’ve really been enjoying experimenting with a new kind of platform and getting to chat with some of my favourite writers! Today’s episode is particularly exciting because my guest is Erin Summerill, author of Ever the Hunted, a 2016 released YA fantasy which sent the internet a little crazy! No matter where I turned on social media, I was seeing cute flat lays and in-depth reviews of this novel, so I bought it. And then I read it in two days, only to find that all the hype was very much deserved! I asked Erin onto the podcast and she kindly agreed to chat with me about Ever the Hunted and her experience as well as recommending us a few reads to flick through. She’s an incredibly warm person who is lovely to talk to and I think that really shows through in this episode! It’s a fun one So, pour yourself a mug of tea, grab a blanket and curl up with todays Beth’s Bookshelf episode. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I loved recording it x If you’d like to read Ever the Hunted, you can purchase it here. Don’t forget to follow Erin on Facebook and Twitter. As I mentioned in the podcast, I’ve recently been getting back into Goodreads and updating it regularly. So, if you want to see my reviews, what’s on my shelves, and what books I’m currently reading (in real time) then follow me over there.     The post Beth’s Bookshelf Podcast: #3 Erin Summerill – Ever the Hunted, book recommendations & some nattering! appeared first on My Blog.

Hi guys! I hope you enjoyed the first episode of Beth’s Bookshelf last week with Danika Stone. I’m really enjoying podcasting! Today, I have L.E Delano (Ellie) on the podcast with me, the author of ‘Traveller’, a much anticipated young adult novel for 2017 published by Swoon Reads. The story surrounds Jessa, a character who, during the novel, finds out she can travel through alternative universes. Ellie is a fantastic author, and a wonderful person to chat to. Especially about writing and literature! In this episode of Beth’s Bookshelf, we got talking about fan fiction, Once Upon a Time (which was the inspiration for her novel), the representation of autism in literature, and how writers can find inspiration to get creative! We even got talking (in some serious depth) about how great it is to sniff books. If you’d prefer, you can now listen to If you’d prefer, you can now listen to Beth’s Bookshelf on iTunes or on Acast. Welcome to the first episode of Beth’s Bookshelf, my brand new podcast for all things writing and literature. I’ve wanted to start this podcast for several months now and I’ve finally gathered together some brilliant writers to interview and share with you all. I’ve pretty much used this podcast as an excuse to contact writers that I admire so I can fangirl over them during interviews! Here you will find an archive of conversations with wonderfully creative people, discussing their backgrounds, journeys, and relationships with literature. Grab some earphones, a cup of tea and enjoy these interviews about creative processes, friendship, feminism, fandom, books, and more with writers from my bookshelf! Let me know your thoughts through twitter@bethmayashley & follow for updates! I really hope you enjoy! Today’s guest is Danika stone, the author of All the Feels. When her favourite character Captian Matt Spartan is killed off, Liv’s life is turned upside down.
