Because of This & That

  • 4. For the Love of Animals with Guest Adam Cárdenas Sisk

    01:18:06||Season 1, Ep. 4
    Goats and tigers and tent caterpillars, oh my! Guest Adam Cárdenas Sisk and I talk about how our varied experiences with animals have shaped our lives. We journey through our memories, traipsing from a farm to the Shangri-La of pets to a lab to a tiger sanctuary. Shout out to Dawn for being awesome!Corrections:I have no proof the raccoons were rabid. They might have had another disease, but they weren't right. Tent caterpillars are very unlikely to kill a tree or do any lasting damage to them. It looks worse than it is. Tent caterpillar moths don't have deathheads on their wings. My memory took my terror, waking up with them flapping about my face, and added that detail for ambiance.Slow lorises belong to the suborder of Primates called Strepsirrhini, not whatever I said. I'm sure my PI got it right when she dismissed them. • 3. Why New York Loves Alexander Hamilton

    28:36||Season 1, Ep. 3
    The bias is pilled high when a New Yorker explains what a New Yorker Hamilton was with the aid of, fellow New Yorker, Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical "Hamilton" and, fellow fellow New Yorker, Colin Quinn's comedy special, "The New York Story." And, of course, I try to sing, so you've been warned.

    In H. Miller's first-ever podcast, she demonstrates why stupid people think they're smart. Turns out she's experiencing the Dunning and Kruger Effect, the Big Fish Little Pond Effect, and is hoping for a dash of Beginner's Luck, but won't keep her fingers crossed.
