Be My Gast
Jiaozi! ft. Jing from You Rice Me Up
Is there anything better than meat/veggies wrapped in dough? If there is, I haven't discovered it and neither has my guest this episode.
Jing (_jing.h) is a fellow podcaster – among many other things! – who hosts You Rice Me Up, a Berlin-based podcast that highlights Asian Europeans. I've invited Jing to the kitchen table to hear all about her experience growing up in Germany with her Chinese parents and four siblings.
Jing also shares some of her favorite Chinese dishes as I attempt to serve her pork jiaozi (Chinese dumplings) her grandmother would be proud of.

4. O-M-Gumbo ft. Sierra
36:19||Season 1, Ep. 4Creole/Cajun cuisine might just be some of the best food in the world, so, when this episode's guest, Sierra (@gravesyoga) mentioned Gumbo as the dish that takes her back, I of course had to invite her to the kitchen table (or rather she invited herself!).Sierra dropped by to chat about her nomadic upbringing, moving to Berlin on a whim, "slap yo mama meatloaf" and of course the role gumbo played in her childhood.Recipe Credits:I didn't use a recipe since I've made gumbo before...with varying degrees of success, but here's a super detailed recipe from Reddit that's pretty similar to the one I made.Podcast Credits:Music: Home Cooked x Sight of Wonders Audio engineering: @m.lauralenguaCover art direction & photography: @colourme.studioCover design: @manuelaoficialPodcast consulting: @bearradioberlin2. "Shelly-Ann's" Jamaican Feast ft. Zhané
32:06||Season 1, Ep. 2It was so much fun to welcome Zhané (@gyallikezee) to the table for a delicious journey to Jamaica...by way of London. We dig into jerk chicken, rice & peas and fried plantain made by yours truly along with coleslaw and rum punch Zhané brought along. Join us as Zhané shares the single event that spontaneously led her to Berlin , her Caribbean upbringing in the UK and her uncle Wayne's tips for making the best jerk chicken (hint, it involves a barrel).Enjoying Be My Gast? Serbian Sarma Surprise ft. Jovana
24:24||Season 1, Ep. 1In this debut episode of "Be My Gast," my good friend Jovana (@jovanaofeastberlin) joins me at the table for a journey down memory lane. We chat about Jovana's path from Serbia to Berlin and a couple of her grandmother’s favorite recipes. Then, I surprise her by serving Sarma, a stuffed cabbage dish popular in Serbia. We swap Sarma stories and talk Youtube Babas and fermentation before I wrap things up with a few learnings from the episode.Thoughts on the episode? I’d love to hear your feedback.
