1 in 9 Teens Targeted by Criminals
•
New research uncovers a disturbing trend: one in nine teenagers have been approached by criminals for illegal activities. This exploitation is more widespread than realized, with thousands of children drawn into criminal networks. Jon Yates, chief executive of the Youth Endowment Fund, warns that children are being targeted, often without fully understanding the consequences. A small percentage of teenagers join gangs, with girls making up nearly forty percent. Exploited children are significantly more likely to experience serious violence, with almost half requiring medical treatment. Leaving gangs often involves growing older, realizing the stress, or wanting to avoid trouble with the police. Positive influences like sports, creative programs, and trusted adults also help young people escape these dangerous situations.
