Tom has achondroplasia and uses a wheelchair. He is a social scientist and bioethicist who has worked particularly on disability and on genetics.&nbsp;His books include Disability Rights and Wrongs, Genetic Politics, and Disability – the Basics. In July 2018 Shakespeare was elected a Fellow of the British Academy. He has been a stand-up comedian, an actor, a dancer, and an artist.
