This is the remarkable story of Margaret 'Mom' Chung. She lived many lives in her time - after becoming the first female physician of Chinese descent in the United States, she would go on to 'adopt' hundreds of soldiers, sailors and airmen during the Second World War. Amongst her 'fair-haired bastards' were people like Ronald Reagan and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. After volunteering as a frontline medic, she supported the war effort by pioneering the Naval Women's Reserve and recruiting volunteer pilots to fight the Japanese in China.
So how exactly did she manage to forge such a distinctive path for herself? Dan is joined by Judy Wu, author of Doctor Mom Chung of the Fair-Haired Bastards, to help make sense of the kaleidoscopic life of this extraordinary person.
