In this chat, we discuss the world-first study of seabirds that Alix was involved with - which identified that seabird chicks heavily affected by plastic ingestion demonstrated a range of negative health consequences, including liver and brain damage. We discuss the study methodology and results - and the associated implications to both wildlife and humans.</p><p><br></p><p>Useful links:</p><ul><li>Alix on LinkedIn (<a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/alix-de-jersey-122264177/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>)</li><li>Alix at AdriftLab (<a href=\"https://adriftlab.org/team/alix-de-jersey/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>)</li><li>Article \"<em>World-first analysis of seabirds who’ve eaten plastic reveals slow, insidious health impacts</em>\" (<a href=\"https://theconversation.com/world-first-analysis-of-seabirds-whove-eaten-plastic-reveals-slow-insidious-health-impacts-222893 \" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>)</li><li>Journal paper \"<em>Seabirds in crisis: Plastic ingestion induces proteomic signatures of multiorgan failure and neurodegeneration</em>\" (<a href=\"https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.ads0834\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>)</li></ul><p><br></p><p>For further information about Ocean Protect, check us out at&nbsp;<a href=\"https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oceanprotect.com.au%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cbradd%40oceanprotect.com.au%7C95425b8959df48f304bf08dcfc6d1ef5%7C86f6a188653f41718a75b35ab0f3509f%7C0%7C0%7C638662792846172845%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=XjO5PWCXKRZMwDtCa%2Fpwwiq%2FQRqDuVl5wGSqkEvc6EU%3D&amp;reserved=0\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">www.oceanprotect.com.au</a></p><p><br></p><p>Photo credit: Dr. Neal R.
