With symptoms ranging from mild to severe, acne is caused when hair follicles become blocked, resulting in spots, oily skin and sometimes skin that’s hot or painful to touch. It can be both physically painful and emotionally distressing, and may lead to a loss of confidence, self-esteem and self-worth.
