{"version":"1.0","type":"rich","provider_name":"Acast","provider_url":"https://acast.com","height":250,"width":700,"html":"<iframe src=\"https://embed.acast.com/$/74715c1d-098c-441c-a141-5599d9dd67ae/6a7db72951319a521dff46c7?\" frameBorder=\"0\" width=\"700\" height=\"250\"></iframe>","title":"How mentors and role models will inspire the next generation","thumbnail_width":200,"thumbnail_height":200,"thumbnail_url":"https://open-images.acast.com/shows/621e276f56506ffbab0e666b/1786624513064-8f1ac7e4-d1f4-47d1-95ff-e5800bff6ac8.jpeg?height=200","description":"<p>“She just blew me away and that was day one.” <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/61d2ee7e-3b8c-4708-a3dd-d2b914f1191b?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Gabrielle Beaumont</a> still remembers the impact of seeing a “formidable lady” in a senior role as she discusses the importance of visible female role models to inspire the next generation.</p><p><br></p><p>Beaumont, chief executive of <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/62a1bd3a-04ae-4923-a861-f7f4fd986277?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">One Four Nine</a>, told Tea with the FTA about how role models are invaluable and have a big influence, but questioned how to get those <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/61d2ee7e-3b8c-4708-a3dd-d2b914f1191b?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">role models</a> out into the profession.</p><p><br></p><p>Vanessa Barnes, co-host of Tea with the FTA and founder of Hannay Wealth, said advisers need to get better at showcasing the profession to show off role models.</p><p><br></p><p>“We need to be better at using social media ourselves, so that we push out the rubbish and then actually land what we [advisers] look like and what it [the profession] looks like,” Barnes explained.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>In this video podcast, FT Adviser and WWA look at the issues affecting <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/773b793a-4795-4c32-8c90-856f04f2d15f?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">women</a>, and <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/7065d4cb-47b6-405b-a006-cbb67382cef6?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">companies</a>, in the <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/295f4db1-6703-4e79-bb01-74e6ac8ad930?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">financial services sector</a>.</p><p><br></p><p>Though the survey revealed 93 per cent of female practitioners would recommend the industry to other women, very few of these had come into the profession knowing about the career from an early age, so there was an educational opportunity outlined in the study.</p><p><br></p><p>Moreover, there was a “glaring disconnect” according to Barnes, where a cohort of women just did not want to take on a regulated role, and another did not continue progressing in financial planning.</p><p><br></p><p>FT Adviser and the <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/7065d4cb-47b6-405b-a006-cbb67382cef6?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Women’s Wealth Alliance</a> have teamed up to create a <a href=\"https://www.ftadviser.com/content/7be548d2-533f-4800-a284-73be14dbc201?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=acast&amp;utm_campaign=editorial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">mini-series of vodcasts</a>. The WWA, a working group of the Consumer Duty Alliance, has been tasked with a twofold goal: to help bring more women into financial services and to improve the financial resilience and education of women across the UK.
