Barcelona are revisiting an old target with renewed interest, as reports claim the club are once again monitoring Sporting CP right-back Iván Fresneda ahead of a potential future move. The 22-year-old Spanish international, who was first strongly linked with Barça in 2023 while at Real Valladolid, has impressed since joining Sporting in Lisbon and recently earned his first senior call-up for Spain under Luis de la Fuente. According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo and Spanish media, sporting director Deco is “dazzled” by Fresneda’s profile and sees him as an ideal fit for Hansi Flick’s system, especially with Jules Koundé’s long-term future at right-back still uncertain and the club looking to secure a specialist for that position. This video breaks down why Barcelona want Fresneda, how his contract situation looks (under deal until 2028 with an €80m release clause, with Sporting pushing for an extension to 2031), which other clubs are interested (including Arsenal, Roma and Napoli), and whether a move is more likely in the January window or summer 2027.
