The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 to clinch the series. Jacob Misiorowski delivered 5⅔ innings of two-hit baseball before leaving with right calf cramps, and Milwaukee’s bullpen shut down Tampa until a ninth-inning run. William Contreras led the offense and was named World Series MVP after a standout performance both at the plate and behind it.
Contreras earned the Willie Mays World Series MVP award, batting 8-for-21 with four RBIs. He also threw out four of nine attempted base stealers and successfully challenged 10 of 13 calls using the ABS system, helping neutralize a Tampa team that had been perfect on the basepaths earlier in the postseason.
In the NBA, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic recorded his 200th career triple-double, becoming just the second player in league history to reach the milestone. He finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists in a 104-91 win over New Orleans. Russell Westbrook remains the all-time leader with 209.
The Miami Heat earned their first win of the season, defeating Atlanta 129-117 behind Bam Adebayo’s 24 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards also made Adebayo the franchise’s all-time rebounding leader, passing longtime teammate Udonis Haslem.
Detroit improved to 4-1 with a 97-89 win over Charlotte. Cade Cunningham scored 30 points, while Paul Reed added 16. Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 31 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Charlotte announced that Muggsy Bogues will have his number retired on February 11, joining Bobby Phills and Dell Curry in the franchise rafters.
In the NHL, Connor McDavid set a league record with an assist in his 13th consecutive game to open a season as Edmonton shut out Calgary 4-0. Tristan Jarry stopped all 24 shots for the Oilers.
Colorado erupted for four third-period goals to beat New Jersey 5-2, with five different Avalanche players finding the net. Seattle edged Toronto 5-4 on Brandon Montour’s goal with 32 seconds remaining, scoring five times on just 17 shots.
Washington defeated Philadelphia 5-2, with Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou each scoring twice.
Finally, longtime Inside the NBA host Ernie Johnson announced that the 2026-27 season will be his last after 37 seasons. Johnson emphasized that the decision was his own and confirmed he will continue working on NCAA March Madness and other TNT and CBS projects. He also plans to launch a production company called 32 Bowties, focused on feel-good sports stories.
