October 13th, 2006: the State assigns armed police protection to a twenty-seven-year-old man who is neither a magistrate nor a politician. He simply wrote a book. Today, October 13th, 2026, marks exactly twenty years.
In this second episode of Contemporary Superhero, Inequity’s series dedicated to the figures who changed Europe and the price they had to pay, we tell the story of Roberto Saviano. What the world looked like before Gomorra. What it meant to write that book under his own name at twenty-six. Who that young man on the Vespa was. The price he has paid over these twenty years under protection. And why his story is also a story of inequity : a truth read by millions, yet a price paid by a single man.
Inequity is a podcast that chooses to slow down.
Two voices. Two European perspectives.
A shared conviction: to understand is already to act.
