In this episode, Host Mandeep Benipal discusses a shocking AI voice cloning scam involving a Canadian woman who received a phone call that appeared to be from her brother. Scammers allegedly used AI voice cloning technology to imitate her brother’s voice and claimed that he had been involved in an accident and needed urgent financial help. The scammers first demanded $6,000, followed by an additional $1,250 allegedly for a lawyer and bail-related expenses. The victim believed she was speaking directly with her brother because the voice sounded familiar.
This case highlights how AI-generated voices and deepfake technology can be used for financial fraud, making traditional phone scam detection much more difficult.
