Yesterday in Sports recaps a huge Saturday across the MLB Division Series, college football, international soccer, NFL, NHL and Asian Games, beginning with dominant pitching and dramatic finishes across October baseball.
Chris Horwedel breaks down Tampa Bay’s 1-0 win over the Yankees behind Drew Rasmussen’s near no-hitter, Chicago shutting out Cleveland, the Dodgers beating Atlanta and Milwaukee surviving San Diego. The Yankees are also forced to continue the series without Aaron Judge as he recovers from a calf strain.
In college football, No. 25 Missouri delivers the day’s biggest upset by beating No. 8 Florida 45-17, while Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Indiana and Alabama all earn notable wins. Kentucky also produces one of the day’s wildest finishes with an overtime comeback against South Carolina.
International soccer features a historic result as England destroys Croatia 7-0, handing Croatia its heaviest defeat ever. Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka score twice each, while Jude Bellingham adds a goal and three assists. Spain also stays atop the group with another victory.
NFL news includes Green Bay continuing to wait on Micah Parsons’ return from ACL surgery and Carolina placing Xavier Legette on injured reserve.
The NHL slate brings multiple overtime games, including Pittsburgh surviving after blowing a four-goal lead, while Sidney Crosby moves into a tie with Joe Thornton on the all-time assists list.
The episode closes with Tom Kim winning Asian Games golf gold and earning military-service exemption, India retaining the men’s cricket title and South Korea winning a fourth straight men’s soccer gold.
