This special Black Bookstore Documentary Teaser Salon welcomes internationally recognized scientist, educator, and social innovator Dr. Rana Dajani, founder of the global We Love Reading movement, now active in more than seventy countries. Her work demonstrates that meaningful social transformation often begins not with large institutions, but with ordinary people who choose to read aloud to children in neighborhoods, parks, libraries, and community spaces.
Her philosophy mirrors what historians have long understood about Black bookstores throughout America. These spaces did not simply sell books—they cultivated readers, thinkers, organizers, entrepreneurs, and movements that reshaped American democracy.
