Today’s podcast explores the only salsa class in history where a discussion about dance turns into a debate about culture, relationships, workplace dynamics, social expectations, and one very confused dance instructor! The scene is funny because Jennifer’s reaction is completely out of proportion to what’s actually happening.
Carlos, the salsa instructor, simply explains that in salsa the man traditionally leads and the woman follows. So, Jennifer should simply let her dance partner Paddy lead.
For Carlos, it’s just a dance. For Jennifer, it’s apparently a United Nations summit on gender politics.
There is of course a serious point; why do we frequently accept an idea just because that’s the way its always been done ?
Do we often resist change? Is that a good or bad thing?
