Scientists say Mona Lisa showed signs of alopecia areata
Scientists now believe the Mona Lisa was showing early signs of alopecia areata, the same type of hair loss Gail Porter experienced in her thirties. Mona Lisa's missing eyebrows, thinning hairline and lack of eyelashes are cited as evidence. Historians note it was also fashionable to pluck the hairline and eyebrows in her era.
