The first interview is with Octávio Costa of OG & Associates, the co-founder of Artbeerfest Caminha, Portugal’s largest, oldest, and premier craft beer festival. Octávio also organizes other Portuguese and international craft beer festivals, and is an influential ambassador of Portugal’s craft beer movement. We spoke about the festival and the growth of the craft beer movement in Portugal as he was making preparations for this year's edition of Artbeerfest in Caminha.
HITJ also visited brewers Adam Heller and Raquel Nicoletti at their Quimera brewpub in Alcântara, Lisbon. We spoke about the growth of the craft beer movement in Portugal over the past decade, the start up environment in the country, and the movement's positive impact in building communities and local economies. We spoke about their historic brew and architecturally significant gastropub – located in a 300 year old tunnel to a royal palace – and challenges to craft beer brewing in Portugal. Miguel, Adam, and Raquel also drink a LOT of Quimera's beers throughout this conversation.
