Egypt has moved to consider potential military assistance to Saudi Arabia as regional tensions rise following renewed attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for an emergency parliamentary session to authorize possible action if Saudi Arabia formally requests Egypt’s support. Egyptian officials have emphasized their commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The parliamentary session on October 18 was adjourned, with further discussions expected on Monday. The request concerns authorization for possible military assistance; it does not mean that an Egyptian troop deployment has been confirmed.
The developments highlight growing security concerns across the Middle East and the close strategic relationship between Cairo and Riyadh. Egypt has also called for diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions and pursue peaceful solutions.
