Mac Van Wielingen, a founder of ARC Financial and one of Calgary’s most prominent business leaders, reflects on decades of investing in the energy sector and advocating for better public policy. He explains why defending freedom and democracy requires citizens to engage with government, even when their efforts seem futile. He joins Alberta Edge to discuss Western alienation, Canada's changing attitudes toward energy, and the structural reforms he believes are needed to make Confederation fairer and more functional. Despite years of political frustration, Van Wielingen remains convinced that meaningful change is possible—but it takes patience, resilience, and a willingness to keep showing up.
