Professor Alan Jamieson, deep-sea scientist and co-host of <em>The Deep-Sea Podcast</em>, joins <em>Green Frequency</em> to explore the complicated relationship between public perceptions of the deep ocean and our willingness to understand and protect it. Drawing on his paper <em>Fear and Loathing of the Deep Sea</em>, we examine the origins of thalassophobia, the influence of popular culture, and the role scientists and science communicators play in shaping public understanding. We challenge some of the most persistent narratives about deep-sea exploration and ask how changing the stories we tell might help us better appreciate the largest living environment on Earth.</p><p>And fittingly, Professor Jamieson joins us from aboard a research vessel in the Atlantic Ocean, hundreds of miles offshore.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Episode Guests: Professor Alan Jamieson</strong></p><p>Listen to the<u><a href=\"https://www.deepseapod.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> Deep Sea Podcast </a></u>and Professor Jamieson’s episode on Oceanography about <u><a href=\"https://shows.acast.com/oceanography/episodes/ocean-trenches-explained\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Sea Trenches</a></u></p><p><br></p><p>Explore the <u><a href=\"http://pineforestpods.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Pine Forest Media</a></u> digital ecosystem on our <u><a href=\"http://pineforestpods.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">website</a></u></p><p>Follow us on Social Media @pineforestmedia</p><p>Cover Art by <u><a href=\"https://laurelawong.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Laurel Wong</a></u></p><p>Theme music by <u><a href=\"http://nelaruizcomposer.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Nela Ruiz</a></u></p><p><br></p><p>Find some more Pine Forest Media podcasts below</p><p>Listen to Oceanography on <u><a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/show/6cg6LgAEvCP32rj24KixpP\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify</a></u> or <u><a href=\"https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/id1826543626?mt=2\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Podcasts</a></u></p><p>Listen to Plastic Podcast on <u><a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/show/4Iv20PynWeNKEZtq5O5UOj?si=MW-ZYI8zS0mUroec9T_lfA\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify</a></u> or <u><a href=\"https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/plastic-podcast/id1737963995\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Podcasts</a></u></p><p>Listen to South Pole on <u><a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/show/292f9HcD3eCI2V6hLQG2Hi\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify</a></u> or <u><a href=\"https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/id1748730442?mt=2\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Podcasts</a></u></p><p>Listen to Something in the Water on <u><a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/show/5HGQytPxV6FfcX03OUBXYf?si=YszhS8C4ToafplCEsEErAQ\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify</a></u> or <u><a href=\"https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/something-in-the-water/id1740586381\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Podcasts</a></u></p>","author_name":"Pine Forest Media | Environmental Science Podcasts"}
