In this episode, Nat and Sarah are live from Xerocon Denver 2026 with Isaac Perdomo, founder of Opzer, someone they have followed on socials for years but never met in person until now. Isaac is not an accountant, he is an engineer that builds the agents, automations and apps that accounting firms actually use, and he helps them work out where technology will have the biggest impact before anyone starts building.
They kick off with the question everyone is asking. With this much noise around AI, what should accountants and bookkeepers actually pay attention to?
The conversation moves to the firm of 2030. Isaac's take is that AI becomes the interface, and accountants will not be sitting inside Xero or QuickBooks doing the work in a few years.
They cover the tools he reaches for, the shift away from traditional RPA towards browser extensions and desktop scripts, and what to do with sensitive client data. His answer is that it depends on volume and consequence, with a spectrum that runs from free personal accounts through to enterprise plans, embedded AI and local models, and a very simple starting point for anyone who wants to experiment locally. Sarah pushes on cost, and whether the current pricing is quietly being subsidised.
They finish on governance, which Sarah sees as an easy lift and a natural advisory conversation for the profession. Isaac's view is blunt. If you have not made a decision about which tools your team can use, your team has already made it for you, and your inaction is what is creating the risk. His starting point for an AI policy is one line. Define what tools you use, in what context, and with what data.
