Lead Good turns its focus to Judo’s teenage years, exploring what happens when a young person falls through the cracks.
In this episode of Lead Good, Lewis Martin and Judo revisit the years Judo describes as his “lost years”. A period that began with being expelled from school and eventually saw him caught up in youth crime, imprisonment and the justice system.
The episode follows Judo’s first arrest, his time in Parkville Youth Justice Centre and the lack of meaningful intervention during his first six weeks in custody. Judo reflects on the role of peer groups, family, consequence and lived experience in shaping young people’s choices, while Lewis examines how the right person, at the right time, might have planted a seed that could have changed the course of Judo’s life.
Their conversation explores youth crime, youth justice, rehabilitation, peer influence, family support and the missed opportunities for early intervention, asking a difficult question: how many chances do we have to intervene before a young person becomes lost to the justice system?
