On the night of September 18–19, 1976, the Iranian military received several calls from civilian witnesses in Tehran reporting a brightly glowing object in the sky. The object was described as an intense light flashing red, green, orange, and blue, and appeared to hover motionless at a high altitude before moving in different directions at extremely high speeds.
The Iranian military took the reports seriously and ordered one of its fighter jets, an F-4 Phantom II, to investigate the object.
