Their temples, such as Ġgantija and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, display advanced architecture, astronomical orientation, and acoustic properties that appear to have been deliberately created. More than 7,000 skeletons were found in the Hypogeum, several of which had elongated skulls that cannot be explained by known human variations and that later disappeared under unclear circumstances.
