Here is a bet. By the end of tomorrow night you will have decided who you like in Salt Lake City, and you will be certain you got there on your own. You did not. Somebody in an edit bay got there first, and made it feel like your idea.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is back Wednesday, September 16 at eight on Bravo, supersized, on a brand new night after six seasons of Tuesdays. Before a single scene airs, host and behavioral analyst Elle Schwartz hands you three tools for watching it, and proves each one using this show's own history. First, the quiet room, the scene where a woman talks with nobody swinging at her. Heather Gay refused to explain her black eye for two full seasons and we adored her through all of it, because that same year she gave us Bad Mormon, her daughters, and her exit from the church. Jen Shah got none of that. Second, who says it first. Monica Garcia never announced that she was Reality Von Tease. Heather announced it about her, in a seven minute scene, in Bermuda, and that sequencing is the entire reason Monica reads as an infiltrator instead of a messy woman with a past. Third, the music, which moves a beat before the moment. Mute the Vail bus sequence from Season 2 and it is four women in a parking lot on their phones. Unmuted, it is a thriller.
Then the season itself. The full Season 6 cast returns. Lisa Barlow, Mary Cosby, Heather Gay, Angie Katsanevas, Meredith Marks, Bronwyn Newport, and Whitney Rose, with Britani Bateman back as a friend and newcomer Ashley Quai arriving through Lisa and Whitney. Quai is a Utah native, an entrepreneur, and a former makeup artist, and her first storyline is a story about her husband traveling the group faster than she can catch it.
Three marriages are under strain and all three need different handling. Angie is drifting from the person she loves most, and her husband Shawn talks in the trailer about what a split would do to their daughter Elektra. Whitney is reconsidering where she stands with Justin. Bronwyn is already on the far side of hers from Todd.
And the season carries real weight. Production paused after the death of Mary Cosby's son, Robert Cosby Jr. Bravo says the group set the feuds down to hold her up, and Robert Cosby Sr. returns to camera for the first time since Season 1. Elle keeps that segment on the production choices and off anyone's grief, and names the one question worth grading all year.
