How one glowing canvas, born from the courage to let color flow, launched an art movement.

On an October afternoon in 1952, a young painter in Manhattan unrolls a huge canvas onto the floor—and pours thinned paint over it instead of brushing it on. In this episode, we look behind the work to discover how this experiment became Mountains and Sea, why two painters from Washington, D.C., recognized their own future in front of the painting, and why the woman who set an entire art movement in motion had to watch as the men became famous first.
