The Los Angeles-based cartoonist blends 1970s exploitation cinema, pulp fiction, horror, and sci-fi into graphic novels that are stylish, sexy, and just a little dangerous. She’s been making comics for nearly twenty years, with four titles on Fantagraphics.

Her career "officially" started with Nurse Nurse (Sparkplug, 2012), a Barbarella-inspired sci-fi comic, and Operation Margarine (AdHouse, 2014). That second book won her the Emerging Artist Prize at Cartoon Crossroads Columbus in 2015. From there she landed at Seattle’s Fantagraphics Books, the legendary comics publisher behind Love and Rockets, which has put out My Pretty Vampire (2017), a 70s-style horror story; The Agency, her collection of sex-positive sci-fi short stories; and Maids (2020), a true-crime graphic novel about the Papin sisters. Her latest, Heaven—a neon desert noir set in a supernatural strip club—was released by Fantagraphics in July of 2026. Beyond comics, Katie talks about her Bad Girl Tarot and Oracle decks and her podcast Thick Lines.

Abd if that's not enough she’s also a LAMBDA Literary Fellow, an AVN nominee, and a two-time Feminist Porn Award winner. This is a fun conversation about adult cartoons, the things that have inspired Katie in her life and making a career out of the stuff the mainstream is too scared to draw.
","author_name":"Daniel House"}
