He is former editor of the <em>Jerusalem Quarterly</em> and <em>Hawliyyat al Quds</em>. He is Professor Emeritus of sociology at Birzeit University. He has authored several works on urban culture, political sociology, biography and social history, and the social history of the Eastern Mediterranean.
