Saturday, January 29, 2022 - the events of the night before and into the early morning hours, we would learn, would bring a seismic shift to this bedroom community 20 miles south of Boston.
Canton, a town straddling 25,000 residents, was thrust into the spotlight in the days and weeks after John O’Keefe – a Boston cop – was found dying in another cop’s driveway hidden under a blanket of snow. The wicked winter storm whipped through the quiet streets, and before the day was over two feet of snow had fallen. Canton police were left to dig out of the mystery of John O’Keefe’s death.
What is an unfortunate accident due to a night of heavy drinking and driving? Was a relationship gone sour to blame? The case was a watershed moment in Massachusetts criminal justice.
And people could not get enough.
Journalist and New York Times bestselling author Dave Wedge takes this case head on in his new book, Blizzard of Lies: Karen Read, John O'Keefe and the Shocking Unsolved Murder in Cop Town, USA (Simon and Schuster). Part one.
